Oh, Snaps! I need FIVE monitors!

Anyone know how to accomplish this?

They each need to be independent of the other, not a clone view.

I know how to do it from the OS end, I need to know how to do it from the hardware side. 3 video cards? SLI? Can PCIe handle this?

Any and all ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

EDIT: Hi, and thanks for the help!

The reason I need 5 is this: I have a buddy who is a professional poker player, and is upgrading his system to make it easy and more convenient to use. He plays 4 tables of online poker at once, and needs the fifth to be his "command console", where you set up the games, stats program, etc.

In regards to the original post, research here and in other venues indicates that multiple video cards will work.

My question now is this: Do I just slap 3 dual output video cards into PCI slots, and go? I don't need anything fancy, as the poker clients are definitely not graphics intense. What I am concerned about is how 3 video cards will interface with the OS (Windows XP or Vista, I can install either one on the system.) Do I have to worry about any conflicts? Will the OS recognize 3 video cards?

Thanks for any help!

why dont you just use 1 screen, and any other info you need to view at the same time, just print off in binary (using 4 printers). Thats what I do. (although reading binary takes forever....and is extremely difficult to use when trying to "display" 3D representations of things in your head) )

long story...

5 monitors to view the SAME THING or view different things?

Well when he said They each need to be independant of the other, not a clone view I am going to take a gues and say it is different things. I said this in another thread about you OPEN YOUR DAMN EYES AND READ THE POST.

I have never seen this actually done in person. They have motherboards that have 3 and 4 pci-e slots that you can put in crossfire or sli, but they are pretty high end. You'd probably be better off running 2 separate computers, or just getting a few large monitors. 5 monitors is pretty impractical and expensive. Instead of like 5 17 inch monitors, get like 4 22 inch wide screen monitors or something. Its probably the same cost if not less since you don't have to buy an extra video card...anything above 4 monitors is probably too much for 1 processor anyways. Unless ofcourse your going to be doing mildly intensive stuff. Otherwise the processing of the display will eat up a chunk of the processor.

dont talk to our respected members like that. Infraction given

Wow what makes them respected members just because they have a lot of posts that is stupid as hell. apj101 why don't you get off your power trip and start being a good moderator instead of an asshole.

no, what makes me respect him is that he has been here 3 months and has been mature, helpful, and curtious. You have been here 5 mins and have been insulting and rude.
Insulting a member earns you and infraction...Insulting an moderator earns you a promotion.
Congrats, be sure to check out all the new features your promotion brings

well before you ban me allow me to say go **** yourself.

I've never seen 5 monitors used either, although I think it's possible with a piece of external video equipment although it's expensive. I think someone's got 24 monitors wired up for FSX!

All you need is a bunch of videocards that are all either from ATI or nVidia. The most monitors I've seen heard of being used at once is 13, but he used multiple computers and a certain program to make it work in Flight Simulator.
