CPU lapping

I understand the whole how to and process of lapping in general. One thing though, I was reading if you want to lap your cpu you should cover the pin side to avoid damage? How would you go about actually doing that? Thanks.

I'd use a piece of foam, very similar to what the AMD/Intel ship the chips out in.. it's resistant to static, and it'll cover the pins so you don't get dust, sand and water in there :)

1. place 775 cpu pin side on bottom on hand.
2. push cpu down toward the hand like you should when you install a cpu and lock it with the cover.
3. if you feel pain and or blood, this is normal.
4. proceed with sand paper rubbing it in a circular motion.
5. after 20 minutes or rubbing......

Thanks.....4$$. I'm having a crappy day already, thanks for your useless remarks.

I still say use that piece of foam it ships with.. it'll protect the underside of the cpu while your shaping it with sand paper :D

I agree the foam If you still have it. If not anything soft I suppose, Since it's LGA, land grid array, It will only have a bumpy surface on the bottom, So you don't need to worry about damaging things if you stick it in, say a couple sheets of paper towel.

Sorry to hear about your crappy day man.
