Under my network places, there is no option for my network. I have: Add Network place, Network setup wizard, Wireless network setup, Entire setup wizard, and Entire network.

well, under Network connections, it says Network cable unplugged.

I dont have any options on the side.

My computer is stupid.

Check to make sure your internet programs arent configured to go through a proxy:
Open Internet Explorer
Go to Tools, select Internet Options
Choose the Connections Tab
Click LAN Settings
Make sure none of the boxes are checked and click OK on the two windows open.

If that was the problem that should clear it up for iTunes and such.

Next, if you use Firefox open it.
Go to Tools
Choose Options
Choose the Advanced page
Click Settings...
Make sure the Direct Connection to the Internet radio is chosen.

Also, where are you getting your internet from? (wireless, wired, etc)
the desktop is the one i use and it is wired but we also have a wireless router that connects my moms laptop which i am using right now.

Edit- nothing has worked so far, everything was checked correctly.

Okay, and like Brianmay27 asked, you're sure its plugged in right? And did you try what I posted to do earlier?

go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>sytem restore and check if there is a restore point there 4 when you installed the program

edit: are you sure that the wire is connected to the router or modem?

yep.

what would a system restore erase? because there are files that i can risk being deleted.

so, no files are deleted? (just making sure)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_restore
System Restore will not monitor changes to file types commonly used for users' personal data files, such as documents, graphics, e-mail, etc., and will not restore windows logins. Thus, users will not lose personal data, emails, etc. when performing a system restore.

Edit: is there a restore point for when you installed that program
