This little fan i found is a beast!

I found this little fan on a duron heatsink, its smaller than a 80mm. This thing must blow at like 150/200 CFM :eek: it blows harder than my 120mm 70CFM fan :eek:

I put it on top of my Northbridge heatsink, it used to idle at 28-30*c... now 19-20*c :eek::eek:, my southbridge idles at 38*c :mad:

I think i might need to diconnect it... maybe its running at a ungodly speed :P

Pointless post, but thought i'd share.. im in shock :eek:
 
Man, that's nice and chilly! :)

Sort of unrelated, but I have the Zalman 9700. My CPU (Q6600) won't go below 39C @ idle! :mad: WTF!? :mad: Maybe I really suck at applying thermal paste. I've applied/reapplied three times and still can't get the temps any lower. :o

Any suggestions?

mep916, did you put a thin line of it down the middle of the CPU, was it AS5 you used?

Yes, I'm using AS5. Basically, I injected about a BB sized amount to the middle. then I "carefully" spread the paste back and forth on the CPU with a business card.
 
BTW, here's a crappy photo I took of the CPU the last time I applied TP. I don't know if that helps anyone.

Also, I switched the orientation of the heatsink/fan toward the system fan. PC Eye suggested that this would help remove heat from the case. Any thoughts?

Looks like alittle much, but I cant really tell by the photo. It just need about the amount of a grain of rice and spread out thin and even with a credit card or something. As far as the fan it should be pointed in this direction

The fan is a intake fan, so it should be pointed toward the cd drives with the fins at the rear toward the back exhaust fan to pull the hot air out. If its turned the other way around it is fighting with the rear exhaust fan for air.

Alright. I'm gonna apply TP again today. I'll turn the fan around. I'm still trying to understand the proper method(s) for cooling a case. Kinda new at this! :o
 
Yea, any thing in the bottom half should be a intake, in the top half should be a exhaust. The side panel is 50/50, I always use the side panel as a intake though.
 
Yeah, 120mm should be an intake, the rear fan should be an exhuast, and the CPU HSF should blow air out the back of the case, so the fan should be facing the DVD Drives, like StrangleHold said.

Also, just apply a thin layer of the TP down the middle, don't do anything with it, when you put the HSF on it will spread it around...

Like the said the fan should be on the right if your facing it like this, and blowing into the exhaust fan

From looking around, my SB is pretty cool.. :D some idle 45-50*c. I feel better now. lol

Your southbridge and northbridge may be the same on your board taylormsj. And ThatGuy16; that fan looks like the one off an eMachines. :P

So, I don't need to use any cards to spread the TP? This is contrary to what many have said. I'm not really sure what the "best" method is. All I know is that I'm not very good at it. :(

Actually a compaq :P, i took it off... it might blow up :D. If blows so hard with a strong suction that i can put my hand about 1 inch away from the back and it will pick up and suck to my hand :eek:. Before i took it off i looked at bios and the temp was 18*c :eek:, now its back to 28 which is still good lol

Right, when you press the Heatsink down it will spread it. I usually spread it myself but people have different methods...
