Quad Core or Dual Core

I'm looking at buying a computer with an intel 2.4GHz Quad Core another similar computer is an intel 3.0Ghz Dual Core. Can anyone tell me which is better.

The quad is more future proof, but the duo will give you slightly better performance in current apps and games, but when apps and games take advantage of cores, the Q6600 will blow the duo away

The Q6600 would be the best choice for future proofing your computer. Is the 3GHz dual-core a Core 2 Duo or Pentium D?

He's probably talking about the E6850 compared to the Q6600. Both are about the same price.

This article explains performance differences of the Q6600 and the E6750: Overclocking: Dual- vs. Quad-Core CPUs - Tom's Hardware

But they're saying the 45nm series chips are gonna be crazy expensive.

Or are they replacing the current chips out now from Intel?

And what's so special about them anyway? March release date... doh!

as long as you have two of the 9-series GeForce GPU's SLI'd on a PCI-e 2.0 board....
or two of the 3870's crossfired on a PCI-e 2.0 board.

Does anyone know (from an economical standpoint) if the E6750 or the Q6600 is the better buy? They're only about $69 dollars difference in price. However the E6750 has a higher FSB (by about 244mhz) and a higher core speed (but only by 233Mhz). But the Q6600 has double the cache, and the obvious, more cores.

I would say the Q6600 is a better purchase.

And you don't think a single 9800GTX will run Crysis on max settings with the new Processor coming out? That tagging along with DDR3?

Q6600 unless you want to wait until January for the 45nm.

Why do you think it's coming out in March, Chris?
