I have never built a computer befor, I have always gone to the local Best Buy or fry's. i AM sick of getting ripped off by the over priced units. What i want to build is a great all around computer that i can use to see movies, listen to music, Play a few games. So i will post below a few things i have been looking at i have not bought any of it yet. Good input would be great

Abit IP35 Pro Motherboard - Intel P35, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express, Dual Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor BX80562Q6600 - 2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket 775, Processor with Fan

OCZ / GameXStream / 700-Watt / ATX / 120mm Fan / SATA Ready / SLI Ready / EPS / Active PFC / Power Supply

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, ATA-100, EIDE, OEM ( x2 if i want to run RAID )

Philips SPD2413BD Super All-Write DVD Burner - 20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, 48x32x CD-R/RW, Black

Auzentech HDA Digital X-plosion 7.1 DTS Sound Card

XFX GeForce 8500 GT 512MB Ultra Silent Cooling PCI

Corsair TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P.

Im not sure if i want to run RAID, I hear good and bad about it. Good things i have read that your system can run faster. But on the bad side is if one HD fails the whole system will not work.

Also i was thinking or getting vista 64bit pro. i have used vista a few times and like how it works. also it dosnt hurt to know someone who works for microsoft and gets the OS for 75-90% off retail

any info would be great.

what about the price per item. perhaps a link to the online vendor for that item if buying online or a quoted price with mention of rebate if there is one?

I would not go for Abit. I'd go for a P31-DS3L, MSI Neo-F P31, or a P31-S3G, if not a P35-DS3L.

I would drop the sound card, get cheaper memory, and a smaller hard drive, and seriously upgrade the graphics card. At least a HD3850.

The memory was on sale for 49.95 per stick, didnt think it was to bad. you say get rid of the sound card. why would be the reason. remember i am a noob when it comes to all this. also the vid card is the same a graphics card?

also thanks to the both of you for taking the time to give me some input.

its from Tiger Direct and or NewEgg this is the 2 places i have been looking for my parts.

yeh video card/graphics card are the same, and the one you posted wont run games on that nicely.

i recommend a HD3850 too as a minimum

you are tlaking about this Card " Visiontek Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - 256MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, HDMI Support, Video Card "
only one i could find with HD 3850 in it. it dose have the HD and HDMI that i would need, just alittle on higher price side.

Like the rest of them said, the 8500 is a worthless Video card.

Heres a link of a whole page of the 3850's from Newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0048+106792462+1067933728&name=Radeon+HD+3850

They are more expensive, but well worth the extra money spent. And the 3850 is the bare minimum video card for gaming right now.

Thanks.. i will look into all this, im not going to be playing quake or any mojor game for now. i mite start playig WoW then move up. the GeForce 8500 gt was going to be givin to me free, new in the box. But if people feel its worthless then i guess its time to look at something else.

Running RAID with IDE HDD??

" IDE HDD " have no clue what it means.

I dont know if i want to run RAID, as i have stated above. i hear some good things Like it makes your system run faster and alittle more smooth. then i hear just as meny Bad thing like if one HD gose down then the whole system gose down. I started this whole post as a noob. i have spent alot of time on here reading other peoples post to help understand alot of this stuff dealing with computers. my first thought was. I would be going to get a 500 gig and 350 gig HD and just run it that way ( as master and slave ) When i got the idea of running RAID i hear Both HD have to be the same size. Wich i said above if i run raid i would get 2 500 gig HD's
Reason i want 2 HD is for the fact, Items i want be adding and removing like music, Movies, Pictures ect to be on the 350gig HD while i use the 500 gig one for the items i will be keeping long term. I dont even know if i want a 500 gig either. thease are all idea's of what i was thinking.

IDE = ATA100
HDD = Harddisk.

RAID only allow to run on SATA HDD with your motherboard.

If you need, the PC to run fast. Get a WD Raptor for main drive which install your OS and program, while your data store with second harddrive. You can run RAID 1 with your storage drive if you like.
