Save XP!

I dont see anyone running windows 95 anymore.. History is repeating itself... People upgraded their PC's, they will do it again. This seems like a continuing problem with M$.

lol i know somebody still running 95

yes microsoft should expand the deadline but in my opinion MS is g*y , how do you expect everyone to run vista ? hell even i as an it dude don't have the hardware to run vista.
just by looking at the thread i knew this was gonna be a huge debate. anyways i would sign this, as many of my colleagues use xp, vista is to new and to feeble in my point.

yeah right, take a trip and come down here to see windows 95 and 98 up and running

I Signed. Vista is not ready to go on it's own yet!
ah very well said

No, I'm serious! I forgot I had it! I was digging through some 'legacy' material looking for something for a Client's older system and found a Retail disk. Next time I perform my annual 'XP reinstall', I'm loading up 98SE first! Ahhh, the memories... :D

I don't like vista, I tried it about 6 months ago, absolutley hated it, tried it a few days ago, its better, some of their updates helped with compatibility issues, maybe in another 6 months I might be ready to move to it completley. People have said that for gaming stick to XP, is this just the way the OS runs, takes more resources or just the visual display, which could be turned down to look like windows 2000?

I think its funny how you can make it look like 2k.... wish you could make it look like xp... but yeah vista is a resource whore.

Here's an update from Computerworld.com. Article

It looks like the system builders license will be available until Jan. 31, 2009. I'm not sure if this applies to the OEM disk that can be purchased from Newegg.

When will the other versions of XP officially be retired then? There are several dates that apply, but the one you're probably thinking of is the June 30 deadline that Dix referred to. That's the last day when large computer makers — the Dells, HPs and Lenovos of the world — will be allowed to preinstall Windows XP on new PCs. It also marks the official end of XP as a retail product.

So-called system builders — the small shops that assemble machines for customers — can put XP on the PCs they sell until Jan. 31, 2009. Microsoft pushed back the cut-off dates last September, when it postponed the then-looming demise of XP by five months.
