Ok I Am Going To Try Building My Own

Excellent point tlarken. I especially loved "and your Power supply supplies power". All joking aside though, very good Post :)

LOL, I meant you don't want some POS powersupply pumping dirty or unbalanced power through your rig.

Great post tlarken, although I must say that SLI/CF offer much more then 10% performance gain, in many games and benchmarks performance increases anywhere from 70-90%.

I've read that the Radeon HD 3870 X2 isn't as good as the GT or GTS? I may be wrong though...
You are way wrong, lol. The 3870 X2 is better then the 8800 Ultra in almost all tests, and costs hundreds less.

I was referring to the single 8800GT versus the single 8800GTS.

Can you post links where they actually show 80% in game performance increases? Parallel processing is really only good for data throughput not for distributing or multi threading instruction sets. So, I don't see how you can get an in game 80% increase of performance versus a single good video card.

Ah, Like I said, I may have been wrong :P

I'm sure the drivers are still immature. AMD released it pretty quickly. I've seen benchmarks that show, in some cases, it's better than the 8800 Ultra. Who knows? :P

Technically, it looks like a great card. :)

Thats just for FEAR, look at the other pages as well. 80% is a bit extreme, I guess I should have said around 50-80%.

Ah, Nice! You going to corssfire them then? :P

I dunno yet. The drivers for quad crossfire are supposed to be released in March, I think. I'd like to try one out, but I'll probably wait and see what nVidia has to offer this year.

This kind of proves my point, it is only really increasing data through put, but not overall performance. Also, if I sat you in front of a game that was running at near 80 fps on one system and 150fps on another do you honestly think you would be able to tell the difference? Mind you the human eye only sees around 20 fps.

Haha! That's amazing! Let me know if you do try it! ;) Then, of course, you'll have to send me your Ultra, because I'm so cool :P

Did you sell your other Ultra, Mike?

ok here it is

CPU: CORE 2 QUAD 2.4 GHz 1066 MHz

I'd go with an additional hard drive for storage. I Like the Samsung 500GB.

The motherboard you selected is no good, IMO. The second PCI-E slot only runs at x4 speeds, as oppossed to x16. If you want an nVidia chipset, get the 680i. If you don't plan to run a SLi configuration, don't get an nVidia chipset. Are you familiar with SLi technology?

The Corsair 620W modular PSU is a better choice, IMO, but Antec make good PSUs as well.

"Are you familiar with SLi technology?" No sir I am not.

It allows you to run two graphics cards. That's the only benefit with an nVidia motherboard. I'd go with the Gigabyte X38 motherboard. It will work best with your video card. The additional hard drive is necessary to backup all your data from the Raptor and for storing media, documents, etc. Install your OS, games and programs on the Raptor.

SLI = waste of money, pump the extra money you are saving into a bad ass monitor or more HD space and more RAM

Yeah, he's gettin' a 24", I believe. I recommended the Dell. What do you think? I know Samsung and LG monitors are good as well. I little cheaper, too.

My buddy works for samsung so I am waiting to see what employee discount is.

But If you guys have any other recommendations PLEASE SPEAK UP NOW. I have already ordered my parts but will reorder them if need be. So you guys that know what your doing PLEASE SPEAK UP NOW. Thanks, Troy
