Iv recently lost my computer to a flood(kinda) and need to build a new one. Im looking to build a pc that can handle higher end games. This is what I have in mind.

MotherBoard:ASUS M2A-VM Socket AM2 uATX Mainboard (66.99)

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9500 Quad-Core HD9500WCGDBOX(209.99)

Dual Channel Memory: Crucial 2GB(1GBx2) DDR2 667 (42.00)

PCI-E Video Card:PowerColor HD 3870 PCS 512MB GDDR4 VD(259.99)

SATA Hard Drive: One Seagate ST380815AS 80GB SATA(41.49)

Antec Nine Hundred 900 Computer Case 87.99

Logisys 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Silent SLI Ready, (64.99)

Subtotal for Directron.com- ***773.44*** Roughly $900 After tax and testing.

Im not a expert on how the cores help a computer process...so I guess my main question is for gaming....does a quad core matter? Also is there anything I can do it upgrade or improve anything I have there for the same or of a lower cost? Also will that powersupply be enough, or will I need something with more watts? Im also looking to xfire and overclock a bit down the road. :D Any help or advice would be great. :D

hey yea don;t get the phenom..i heard it was a flop. If u REALLY want the quad get a intel quad. But a dual should be fine...like mine :) and btw the PHENOM isnt even compatable w/ the M2A-VM...atleast idont think so. And u should get a better mobo...even though thats hypocratic of me... Go for a m3a or something. Idk much about vid cards soo onto ur hard drive. Is 80 enoguh? do you think you would need a second one? for music, videos?? a good rule of thumb is to assume how much space you would need. then double it...gluck

Well im going to redo the specs, I think your right a dual should work. I think im going to go with the E8400 c2d 3.0 Iv heard some storys about people over clocking em to like 4gighertz. Iv never over clock but I heard the hardwares half the battle. Id like not to spend to much on a board but, id like at least 4 slots for ram and sata. Thats really all I require. Its just going to be a regular gaming rig.

I bought this yesterday I hope its going to do.
Power Supply

Next thing im getting is the case, but then after that id like to get a board. Iv been reading reviews and some people are saying the board has to be compatible with that wolfdale e8400. Can someone find me one thats going to suit me? At least one thats going to work for overclocking?

Good thing to remember though, is the MB is what "everything goes through". so if you want performance, don't cheap it out, or you may not get as much out of your components as you'd wish...

Good luck with your rig, would love to hear how it turns out for you.. :)
