Hmmm, rebates on Newegg?

I was reading the fine print on a rebate form and it said "Void where taxed, restricted or prohibited by law."

Does this mean the rebate isn't valid in the three states where Newegg taxes (CA, TN and NJ) or -- please please please -- is it referring to something else and I can still get the rebate in NJ?

If you live where you get taxed (think you said you live in Jersey) then no. You cannot get the rebate.

Sorry man.

OMG, you've got to be kidding! Those are some serious rebates, and I can't even take advantage of them!? I'm starting to hate Newegg.

dude you must love having newegg like in your backyard, shit i wish it was in my state

I would gladly wait an extra day or two for my orders to arrive if it meant not having to pay a sales tax *and* being able to get the rebates! That's a lot of money being wasted! :(

Are they through Newegg or the manufacturer?

The manufacturer. So when I asked Newegg, they said ask the manufacturer. When I asked the manufacturer, they didn't even know what I was talking about and they said ask Newegg.

aww u gotta to be kidding me. So we have to pay sales tax and we dont get rebates. Wtf?!!

Well, if you live in CA, TN, or NJ, you have to pay sales tax on your orders. *But* I'm beginning to think that the whole "Void where taxed" thing is nothing. That is standard language on all rebate forms, and I think it means something other than what I was thinking (i.e. "Void where you pay sales tax on the order"). I think it means something like "Void if the rebate itself is subject to tax." That or something completely vague and useless. I found this online:

-----
Void where prohibited or taxed

A standard disclaimer common on e.g. American coupons. A full disclaimer containing this line might read "One time use only. Valid at participating GNC stores only. No cash value. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. "(taken from a Soy coupon).
The reason that disclaimers even exist is that the US uses the British legal system, i.e. making vague laws and then letting the courts decide how they should be followed from case to case, as opposed to the French legal system, where laws are meant to be so clear that they can easily be understood and followed.

At any rate, Newegg is my only option for most components, so I'll just send in the rebate forms and hope to get a check back. :)

Sounds like that rule only applies to Newegg rebates, not manufacturer rebates. I would send it in and hope for the best.

Well, the wording is on the rebate forms from the manufacturers too, but I'm not going to let this hold me up any longer! :)

I bet you could do it if it is from the manufacturer

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think I was just reading it wrong. It doesn't make sense to rule out an entire state for rebates because they have to pay sales tax. If you buy something in-store, you pay sales tax and I've never had problems with those mail-in rebates.

when you try to click international shipping it says doesnt have it at this time or something like that anyone know if they will ever get it?

I am a NJ resident and i have sent out for rebates from Newegg.com offered products and got them back...eventually.
These were rebates for companies not located in NJ for $10-$20. Its a pain in arse either way just save/photocopy everything you send out...just a little suggestion!

best of luck
