Hi guys, I'm new here. Sorry if I ask about the homework because it's hard to find in the textbook.
I have thesis to be done this week.
Hope you might help.
Explain the following:
a.) Probelms minimized by the introduction of offline peripherals.
b.) Problems created by the introduction of offline peripherals.
c.) How spooling help in balancing the use of the CPU and I/O devices.
The table below gives the input, compute, and output times for three jobs submitted to a spooling system:
job 1 job 2 job 3
input 5 3 4
compute 3 1 2
output 2 2 3
a.) What sequence of processing maximizes the total time to run the three, asuming that the order of input determines the order of processing and the order of output?
b.) Can the order in (a) be improved if the jobs may be processed and output in a sequence other than the one in which they are input? If so, how? If not, why?
c.) What is the best that can possibly be achieved if the jobs are input in the order Job 1, Job 2, Job 3?
d.) Answer (a),(b),(c) with the criterion of minimizing the average turn aorund time for the batch of jobs!
