Building a quiet PC - looking for advice

So I'm planning on building a PC, and want to make it as quiet as possible.

Here are the specs -

Processor -
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor LGA775 Kentsfield 2.40GHZ 1066FSB 8MB

Motherboard -
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ATX LGA775 P35 1333FSB 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN

Videocard -
EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800GT 600MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out

What kind of power supply should I get, that is as quiet as possible?
Also, would I need an additional cooling fan?
Is the video card noisy?

Thanks

That looks like a good power supply to me. some say 700 watts is too much, but I say you can never have enough (unless you have like 1200 watts)

I would also recommend a UPS (uninterpreted power supply) if you can afford it. It is a constant supply of power that makes sure your desktop never crashes due to a power failure. they only last for a few minutes, but you can back up your data and shut down safely.

Ok

OK - here we go for this.

CPU, Mobo, Videocard are the links to "your" wanted products

Mine is quiet and you wouldn't notice it. If you hear anything it would be the fan's going....

I would think that the video card it noisy. As i said you wouldn't notice it.

Also by the parts you said you were going to get... i take it is a gaming computer????

Sorry for being anal (that's just the way I am), but it's called "Uninterruptible Power Supply" :P

Also, I thought that UPSs are used with computers that are used for mission-critical stuff/servers and whatnot, and are out of the price range of normal home users.

All 8800GT's make more noise then one fitted with an Accelero S1 Rev2. You do need some airflow to make it work at it's best but even if you have no knowledge at all you can plug in a 120mm (or maybe even 140mm) fan and take a zip tie to strap it on the thing without it making more noise then any other 8800GT.

(there are turbo modules available for the thing, but those are two 92mm fans while you are able to fit two 120mm fans by getting two 120mm fans and two or four zip-ties.)

Just look up "Accelero S1" on Google (the 2nd revision has no general changes that make it better or worse in terms of temperature, but it doesn't have the same flaws the first revision had.)

i would suggest getting a power supply with a huge 120mm fan that blows from the inside. also, i would suggest getting a heatsink with a variable speed fan. i know on my AMD 64bit, the fan turns off if its below 30*C and turns on when its above that. i also love the fact you can turn down the speed on it so it only runs at 1.3V, and when the cpu gets bogged it gives itself more voltage as necessary

:-D

I would suggest the P180, as I personally have it.

Then, get the Scythe Ninja Rev B cooler and run it passively.
Next buy an Arctic Cooling S1 GPU heatsink and run it passively
Next move the hard drive to the upper drive bay and remove the wind tunnel fan.
Finally buy two Noctua 120mm fans and replace the two Tri-Cool fans.

If you do all that, your computer will be VERY close to silent.

UPS's are used by a lot of gamers and high performance users. Basically anyone into tech that knows what they are. If you have a desktop and the power goes out, it would normally crash. If you can afford a high performance computer, you can most likely afford a $50-100 item that will save files. If you are starting a paper, the power goes out on a desktop, you lose it if you don't save. I always save, but sometimes forget until i'm done. If you have a ups, it's like a laptop battery but only lasts 1/30 as long. Long enough to save, and shut down safely.

Heck, you can get ups's that are built into surge protector outlets. Only a little bigger and a little more expensive, but could mean the difference between the hard drive working or losing a paper.

yes a nice way of explaining it. So if the power goes out you won't lose your computer parts - you can at least shut it down safely.

Depending if it has been bought second hand it can last from 10 to 30 mins

That build looks good except

1) RAM is too expensive. Just for the lights it's $50 more than the original yellow BallistiX

2) The Hard Drive is kinda cheap, you might wanna change that to a Seagate or Samsung

3) The case is also not very good according to its reviews. The Cooler Master Centurion 5 would be better IMO

4) Rosewill PSU's are good (I own one myself) but they are not the quietest out there

:)

The whole point of a quiet computer is to have it so you canNOT hear the fans :P. I'm sure it's not that quiet seeing that you're using all stock heatsinks and fans.
