    Microsoft's New Free Antivirus

I'm actually looking forward to checking out Morro. The AV in OneCare didn't do that great a job scanning according to most AV rating sites. With Microsft turning things around with I have high hopes for Morro.

I need a good mouse suggestion

I love the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. It's been replaced by the 4000 now. It's small, lightwieght and comfertable to hold. It runs off a single AA battery and last about 6 months for the normal man. I get about 3 months but use my computer much more then most people.

    Do I have to?

There is a program called Fix HDC on the UBCD for Windows that sets your hard drive controller to generic that, in most cases, will allow the system to boot and install devices. This helps to avoid a reinstall and all the problems that come with it. If this doesn't work then certainly do a...

    Need some advice.....................

Typically thoses skips are caused when the computer doesn't record the live sound for a second because the sound card can't keep up. Alot of PCs with on board sound just aren't good at sound recording. A lot of older (and some newer) PCs have the same issue your having for seemingly no real...

    What security mode for Wireless?

WPA-PSK [TKIP] is perfectly fine. Depending on your devices they may not support WPA2 anyways. In any case as long as you have a good long non-dictionary password like a 63 digital random password made up of letters (upper and lower case) and numbers you will won't be getting hacked.

    SLI question, sticky didnt answer.

Just looked this up for a friend on the offical nvidia website actually. You can use two differnt cards but they have to have the same GPU. So you could use a 9400GTC and a 9400GTS OC but you could not use a 8600 and a 9800 (or even an 8600 and 8800). I've heard people claim in forums they...

Should I Get an SSD ?

SLC vr MLC is on of thoses in the end doesn't really matter things. THe differnce between the too is in SLC 1bit = 1 cell on the disc, in MLC 2bits = 1 cell. Writing two bits per cell will cause that cell to "wear out" sooner. How much sooner who knows. How long with it take you to get to 1...

Does CCleaner - clear your restore points?

I stoped using Ccleaner a long time after I double checked it and found that it leaves just as much behind as it says it gets rid of. You can check the options in Ccleaner to see if system restore is listed in there. The better question is why such a need for system restore?

Helped needed conducting a forensic audit

Sorry that's not something you can do yourself. To many variables and the like. You need to take it to a trusted local non-big box repair shop. Or maybe you should go visit a divorce lawyer.

"stop error" when trying to install windows

One of the first options when you start installing Widnows XP allows you to create or format partitions. Same screen where you select which partition to install Windows too. Operating System Restore possible?

No you will not be able to if it is a system restore disc. If it's actually an OEM copy of Windows and not restore disc then you can use it to install Windows on the HP with the COA on the HP computer assuming it is XP. You could not use it however to "upgrade" the HP to Windows XP if it did...

    Replacing a Broken Power Supply

The computer is not a piece of shit your electrical service is. No matter how good a system is when you have a power outage/brown out and your voltage spikes up and down it can kill anything. What you need is a good quaility UPS to protect your investment. Dell makes fine computers that work...

    "Limited Connectivity" question.

Assuming you don't have issues with your hardware you can improve your wireless performance by doing the following. 1. Upgrade router firmware. 2. Upgrade wireless driver. 3. Replace worn cables. 4. Proper router placement: Off the floor, away from metal objects, away from high powered...

    Networking a laptop and netbook

Your best bet is going to be to to have the two computers on the same network and share out the optical drive on the laptop as rupertbear suggested. I would kind of assume that since you have two wireless computers (again I assume the laptop is wireless) you have a router already. It is...
