For those of you with a MicroCenter, I saw a Black Friday ad for a i5 2500k for $149.99 in-store only!!

Is this a good desktop pc?

Another thing is it's only got 4GB of RAM which is not much. If you're going to use this for even light gaming on low settings, it will not be enough (like the previous poster mentioned, it has integrated graphics which will not work for gaming).

Very popular case, great reviews, great brand.

    My 2 cents

I got a kick out of how the OP (who has been in "IT" for 10 years) compares a 500gb HDD to a 64gb SSD...

    Want new computer

If you're looking to cut costs then you should consider building a computer yourself. Alienware can make you a powerful machine, but the cost/performance ratio is much higher than if you were to build your own.

    Thank you for that insight.

    Which Graphics Card?

I would get the 6970. I've got an HIS IceQ 5770 and I really like how cool the card stays . Hopefully the IceQ design works as well with a 6970.

    Steam vs retail

I have steam and have purchased several games through them. The biggest downfall in my opinion is the fact that you have to wait for the game to download. I have a pretty standard 1.5 mbps connection speed and I hate waiting for the download to finish. Even though you're 30 miles away from...

windows vs mac vs linux vs other

There is a Windows 7-esque desktop/start menu underneath the application tiles screen. You can change your settings to make it look almost exactly like Windows 7. SO RELAX MAN!!!!!

Which gaming platform do you use?

PC - although my current machine is ready for an upgrade/replacement. My fiance and I are hoping to acquire a 360 on Black Friday for a good deal so we can play that together and I can show her how to be a nerd!

    Fps

That does sound a little bit low for that card, but not too far from the mark. Do you know of anyone personally that is getting way more FPS with the same settings and similar setup?

    650D or HAF X

The 650D has a more clean, refined, and put-together-well look. The HAF X is nice looking but has an almost toyish look compared to the 650D. 650D :good:

    Keyboard trouble.

This would more than likely be an issue with the actual keyboard and mouse. If moving the wires on the keyboard seems to change its functionality then it's maybe got a bad connection somewhere. I'm assuming it's an optical mouse. The optical sensor inside might be going bad. The only other...

    Computer upgrade

1st. What is your budget? 2nd. What kind of power supply does your current computer have (brand/wattage)?

    Should i get this computer?

Are you open to building your own computer? With that kind of budget you could build a really nice machine. The specs on that eBay computer are good, but like daisymtc stated, the PSU is unknown (maybe it is high quality but it's impossible to know without them stating what it is).

    Computer Upgrade

Based on your budget, you may want to just wait until you can afford a new mobo and CPU. Otherwise no matter what single component you upgrade, you'll have some kind of bottleneck.

    Computer Upgrade

This is out of your budget a little bit, but I don't think it'd be a very future-proof decision to throw an i5 760 in there. If you can swing it, upgrade to an 1155 socket motherboard and get an i5 2500. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128487...
