Why does the Web slow down when I plug into router?

When I plug my Ethernet cable directly into my cable modem, I get 60 mbps download speed. But if I plug the cable modem's Ethernet cable into my router first, then connect my computer to one of the four out-ports on the back of my router, my download speed drops to 12 mbps. My router is listed...

    Is this daisy chain okay?

My surge protectors say not to plug them into each other, but I suspect that's because of fear of overloading the AC socket. Basically, my TV and Blu-ray player/receiver combo aren't close enough to a wall socket, and I don't have a surge protector that will reach the devices. But I have two...

    PayPal's web site constantly down

On pretty much a daily basis, PayPal's web site is down for me, but when I check the web, other sites say it is up. Here's a screen shot of what I get when I go to PayPal.com. Why do I have problems accessing it? This happens with all three browsers on Windows 7: Chrome, IE, and Firefox. I...

    Converting Amazon Kindle to pdf

I'm trying to convert my Amazon Kindle books to pdf format. It is awfully difficult. The pdf files are all messed up--formatting is bad, etc. I've tried various programs; none of them seem to work very well. Mostly I have used Calibre, and try to use pdf print from the Calibre Viewer. Anyone...

Desktop USB 3.0 is slower than Laptop USB 3.0

I'm copying files from my desktop HDD to my memory stick using the USB 3.0 port. Speed is about 8 MB/s. I then take the memory stick to my laptop and transfer the files to my laptop HDD using my laptop's 3.0 port. Speed is over 20 MB/s. Why the difference in speed? They're both 3.0 ports.

Why does my computer keep turning on?

Yes, moving the mouse can wake it up. You mentioned the floor, and that reminds me that we recently replaced the carpet in the computer room with tile. Hmmm....I wonder.

Why does my computer keep turning on?

My desktop PC running Windows 7 with Gigabyte motherboard keeps turning on spontaneously. I put it on sleep, then come back a few hours later, and it's on. I have verified that no one else used it. My keyboard and mouse are able to wake the computer if they're used, but no one is using them, and...
