    QuadCore Build Estimate?

Here's my stab at it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119077 Cooler Master Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145250 HDD, you could probably get a better deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128397 Motherboard...

    Will this system work??

I recommend going with a 4850 because then it should be on the dragon platform, which supposedly the parts are designed to work together better.

Please help me with building my first gaming comp

Honestly, I would doubt there would be that large of a performance increase, but generally when people build they try to reach the machine's full potential. You don't have to get the fastest speed, but faster is always better.

Please help me with building my first gaming comp

It looks like it would block a port, yes. But since there's 2 pci slots you could just plug it into the other one of them. Also with that motherboard, I'd go with some DDR3-2000 RAM, although I'm not sure if it would have to be overclocked for that, but it looks alright with it. 4 gigs costs...

windows 7 beta build still function

I really don't think the beta is junk. Anyone that's used both want to clarify any differences? I'm looking for a reason to buy now if it's considerably better.

    New System Build

It really doesn't take that much multitasking to push me to the edge. I have 4gigs atm and without running anything, windows 7 takes up about 20%. If I have WoW running with a few other things in the background, it'll shoot up to 50% or 60%. Running Crysis with other background stuff gets it...

    My Build

I'd ditch the Vista and go for Win 7. Also, from my experience, don't expect to get the rebates. At least I've never actually gotten them =(

    Some Quad-Core Questions.

1: "Multithreaded applications have multiple threads executing in a shared address space. Threads are "lightweight" subprocesses that execute within a process. They share code and data segments, but have their own program counters, machine registers and stack. Global and static variables are...

    New Build :D

Looks like a solid build to me. Your graphics card situation sounds like it's mostly up to your patience. As for a monitor, I got an Asus 21.5" monitor 1920x1080 with hdmi in and built in speakers. It's got a very nice picture and is very spatious. However, I got this particular one because...

windows 7 beta build still function

My RC is working just perfectly :D I believe next year they will start shutting down after 2 hours, then in march they will shut off entirely.

    Wireless AP Questions

This is good advice. I second that motion. A simple bridge should be all it takes to extend the wifi that distance. Also, there will be a small (I don't know about noticable) performance dip with bridging. Don't remember where I read that, but it was somewhere. This guide should help :D...

    How does this sound?

The motherboard manual will tell you that. But in my experience it's always been 1,3 but I don't think it really matters as long as you don't mix the channels (like going 1,2 if you're supposed to go 1,3). Correct me if I'm wrong though.

    New System Build

It's definitely a good start. For RAM (as I just learned), the i5 doesn't support triple channel like i7, but for speed, I'd suggest at least DDR3 1600 with those motherboards. For Ram I'd suggest 6gb or 8gb unless you're going to be doing something really intense, like running virtual...

    AMD or INTEL

Really? My bad. Duly noted though. I just made the assumption since it came out after i7  I apologize if I misled anyone.

    how does this setup sound?

The motherboard always comes with the back panel. It wouldn't come with the case since there's no standard on rear panels.

Setting up ad hoc network between two laptops for sharing internet connection

On the laptop that has the internet. I'm assuming you're sharing through wifi and the internet comes in through a wired port. Enable ICS on the WIRED adapter not the wireless. But the IP settings look good, keep them as is.

    how does this setup sound?

This is the motherboard I recommended to a friend who was doing an i7 build. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188051 The only thing I don't like about it is that it's micro atx, meaning less slots for upgrades, but it could come in handy if you used a smaller form...

    how does this setup sound?

I had heard that rumor but I'm not sure if it's true. I can't think of a reason why they would do that. Someone else here want to clarify? EDIT: Actually I just found it on MSDN. Scroll down the page a bit and you'll find a chart...

    how does this setup sound?

Also, is there a reason for the additional sound card? The motherboard has a pretty nice one built in already.

    how does this setup sound?

I can't really say for certain since I don't have any experience with them, but I would imagine that it performs "adequately". You'll probably be good unless you plan on overclocking. Also, now that I look more closely at your build, that motherboard might be overkill unless you plan on...
