Ku-Sama had the exact same problem... and so do I in HL 1. Try changing the rendering mode, that solved the problem for me, but it made me get other graphical glitches (decals not showing up mainly).

Thats a tough choice... honestly I'd have to see the cards to make a choice. The performance jump from GDDR2 to GDDR3 isn't as big as from GDDR1 to GDDR2 though.

Anisotropic filtering has nothing to do with the interface. AF 16X refers to 16 passes of AF filtering. You can run it, but you'll probably get crappy performance with that card none the less. And by the way, you cant swap AGP 8X and PCIe 16X like that. They're completely different interfaces.
