    windows server home lab

Ok reasonable. With 2 x 250gb you'll be able to run a reasonable amount of vm's. If you really want some experience with Hyper-v... well i just won't use it. There isn't much to it. Very very simple interface and nothing much to play around with. Xenserver and vmware esxi also use much less...

    windows server home lab

Just wondering but why do you need to "blow away" your gaming rig? You don't necessarily need Hyper-v or any other virtualization server. You can just setup vmware workstation (not free) or use virtualbox (free). Inside those you can just setup your testing network any way you want. If you...

If you did that in your router config page you should be fine. Don't know every routers configuration from the top of my head. So to be sure you need to test.

You might want to check out the web interface of your router. Press windows button + r and type "cmd" + enter. Then type "ipconfig" + enter. You need to find the default gateway (should be somewhat like 192.168.1.1). Type that in your web browser and you'll find all the settings your router...

You turn it on :). Just check the manual (fetch it from the website). To see if you have qos (quality of service).

You want qos. Your router needs to support it. But then you can give specific sorts of traffic a higher priority. So you won't have to cut her off or do strange stuff to her computer.

VMware clutch between Windows Server 2003 and Server 2008

@Silent Whisper: no offense, but if you don't know what you're talking about then don't try to help. It's nice of you but it doesn't really help him. @coenraadj: I guess you're using vmware workstation? I'd strongly advice you to use static ip's especially on domain controllers. The other...

Can't connect to my router's config page.

Press windows button + R. Type "cmd" press enter. then type "ipconfig /all". Check what ip the gateway is. That is the ip you need to connect to the router. It might have some security setup so you can't access the web interface when connected through wireless. So you might need to use cable.

    Connection fails when under use

I'd give it a factory reset and update the firmware. If it still happens see if a replacement has the same problem.

Spare router DD-WRT compatible, ANY THOUGHTS?

Dunno if you're in a publicly active spot. But you could make a hotspot and try and make some money out of it. Does it have usb port? Make it a printer server so you can print from anywhere on the network.

You do know any person using a sniffer can just sniff a allowed mac adres and then just spoof that mac adress to connect to your wireless network.

    Data and email backup

All depends on what you already have. 1. How do you access your data? Over networked shares for example. 2. On what do you save the data? San, nas, internal disks or something else? 3. What kind of e-mail server software do you use.

Need help building a home server

And where is your backup??? I cannot say this enough times, raid is no backup. It only protects you from drive failure. It doesn't protect you from everything else like power surges, data corruption, accidental deletion and so on. If you want a backup, at least store the data on another hard...
