    wont start up

You mentioned that it had the wrong number of pins on the memory? I'm not entirely sure how that would work, since each type (DDR, DDR2, DDR3) are all keyed differently, so that they can't be mistakenly installed in the wrong type of slot. If you were somehow able to get the wrong type...

Computer Grinds, and Grinds and Grinds

When you say grind, is it actually grinding, as in making a grinding sound, or is it just feverishly reading the drive? It could be an indicator of a failing drive, especially if it's making any unusual sounds.

    Wireless Network Latency Issue

Try changing channels if the speed test results come out ok. Sometimes you end up picking up some interference from other wireless devices. Are there any other wireless networks within range, or cordless phones?

Should I get a server or high perf PC

I would build a server of some sort, even if you use non-server grade hardware. Something with multiple drives in either RAID1 or RAID5. The drives could definitely handle the throughput of multiple systems accessing them, but you should really have some sort of redundancy, since that's...

    Laptop Keyboard

I did a quick search on Google earlier and couldn't find anything, in the way of replacement keyboards. It probably doesn't help that Packard Bell stopped selling PC's in the US back around 1999, so that really limits the number of parts in the market. It's possible you could take the keyboard...

Portable 1TB hard drive not detected on xp

If the USB ports aren't supplying enough power, there's really only two options I can think of. First is a PCI USB card, and that's still no guarantee of supplying enough power. The next is a powered USB hub. If I had to choose, I'd go with the powered USB hub, just for the sake of having...

Portable 1TB hard drive not detected on xp

If you look in computer management, do you see it? (right-click my computer -> manage -> double-click storage -> double-click disk management) Also, as John asked, do you hear the USB connect sound?

    Laptop Keyboard

Sometimes you can pop off the keys and clean under them, but it may be easier to replace the keyboard. What model laptop do you have?

    router

What brand router is it? Often you can do a factory reset and then you can reconfigure the router from there. Resetting the wireless key is as easy as entering the new key on the devices/systems you want to connect.

Problems updating Italian PC from Vista to Windows 7

Perhaps a corrupted install disk? You can download Win7 here and try again. I hope you have some pretty quick broadband, however as they're all several GB in size.

    Seagate HDD logic board!!!

If he's going to get everything off the drive and is successful in doing so, I would have him run something like DBAN on it before disposing of it.

Internet keeps dropping out - cant retain internet connection

How often is your router set to renew IP addresses? If you set a static IP, does the problem persist?

Problems updating Italian PC from Vista to Windows 7

If you're not worried about the programs that are installed and just want to install Win7 to change languages, you'd be far better off doing a fresh install. I don't see why you'd need a recovery partition for an upgrade though. It should install regardless. I did a Vista -> Win7 upgrade on...

    Hosting Question

Install Apache, create holding page, forward port 80 in your router to the server, change the nameservers with your registrar to point to your IP.

LCD TV Loses signal with PC Intermittently

Just a curious question, but how is your airflow inside the case? It could very well be a heat related issue with the video card. HDMI cables are typically an all, or nothing type deal and don't really suffer from intermittent issues, due to interference, that an analog cable would be...

    Linksys wrt610N + home sharing.

It's probably a heat related issue. Since Linksys went to the internal antenna design, I've seen nothing, but flaky routers. They have poor ventilation and my luck with them hasn't been very good (dropped connections, needing reboots periodically). Is it possible to hardwire the connections...

    DOS rig help!

Truthfully, I wouldn't bother with something that old. You can get all the legacy support you can handle in a virtual machine, and not have to bother with ancient hardware. A PCI IDE controller board would allow you to have a larger drive than 8.4GB, but that's still all the support that DOS...
