I agree, I know you didn't want all the cable sticking out, and it'll probably be a pain in the @ss at this point but it would probably bring your temps down quite a bit.

not that I actually plan on doing this, but would it be faster to get 4 512mb sticks instead of 2 1gb sticks of ram. Or is the advantage only for 2 sticks (seeing as it is called dual channel not quad channel)?

If your HDD is really 80C I wouldn't try actually touching it, thats about 176F. Not exactly something you'd want to slap your hand on to.
