1080p at $200 - Recommendations?

I'm looking to get a 1080p monitor for around $200 (I know it's kind of a low budget :( ) I'm hoping to get HDMI as well as DVI so I can hook an xbox and PC up to it at the same time. Screen size isn't a huge factor. In fact, should I be cautious of the 24" being too big (I currently have 19" and sit about 2 feet away from it)?

I'm currently looking at:
ASUS VH242H http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4942567&sku=A466-2406
Acer X233Hbid http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4401406&CatId=12
Acer H233Hbmid http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...s.asp?EdpNo=4415284&sku=A179-2302&srkey=H233H

Does anyone have any experience with these monitors? How do they compare? Is it worth the extra $30ish to get an LG or Samsung? I'm open to any other suggestions.

Also, just on a side note, will I see a large performance hit upgrading from 1440x900 to 1080p?

I'm ordering from TD since they have a better return policy for dead pixels.

i would say go with the asus, because of my experience asus products are of much higher quality than acer's

I have the exact same plan...I ordered an Xbox and an Asus monitor. I will be using the screen for my laptop and Xbox.

The same monitor you were looking at...it has wonderful reviews all across the web. Here it is on Newegg.

If you wat about 2-3 weeks...I will tell ya how it works :D

Definately buy it from newegg IMO, better service if its DOA or something, and faster shipping.

This is another extremely nice display if you pick it up before it goes off sale:

I'd stay away from that bottom Acer. I have the 21.5" and it's majorly glitchy. The front buttons hardly ever work. Unless it's powered off and back on, they usually won't even illuminate. Many times when the monitor sleeps the power light stays blue (I guess it's sleeping). It also gets stuck in an endless cycle sometimes, going HDMI>DVI>VGA>HDMI...etc until I turn it off.

Does the picture look good? Sure, but I now wish I'd gotten some other monitor that's a little better quality :P

What about this Dell: ST2410 http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-1070
I've heard dell makes pretty good monitors but have absolutely no experience with them.

How does this Asus compare? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...EdpNo=5371576&sku=A466-2302&srkey=ASUS VH236H
It seems like its just a smaller screen size...but it's a bit cheaper?

How so? You need 8 dead pixels to return to newegg whereas at Tiger Direct, they take it back no questions asked any time within the first 30 days. I can wait for a little slower shipping to have that guarantee that I wont end up with dead pixels...

Asus themselves has the 8 dead pixel thing...not newegg: (Asus does however have zero bright dot warranty replacement for "stuck" pixels)

Monitor Standard Return Policy
Return for refund within: 30 days
Return for replacement within: 30 days
Restocking Fee: yes
This is our Standard 30-Day Return Policy. Items covered by this policy (those products for which Newegg states "This item may be returned for a replacement or refund within 30 days only") must be returned to Newegg within 30 days of the invoice date for this policy to apply. “Return” constitutes receipt of the product by Newegg, and not the mere issuance of an RMA.

The following conditions are not acceptable for return, and will result in the merchandise being returned to you:
Any monitor that has been found to be damaged due to physical abuse or misuse.

I would probably go with an Asus over the dell for sheer color quality, on screen adjustments arent going to help as much as a better quality panel.

Yeah, thats what I'm pretty much set on at this point. Thanks for the help man.

Now the real question, is it worth the extra $15 for the 23.6 inch model or just stick with the 23 inch model? :D
Somehow that .6 inches adds 3 pounds to the weight of the monitor...that doesnt seem right. Is there something else thats differnet between the ASUS VH236H and VH242H?

So I am looking for a monitor around this range and found this thread.
A few questions:

First, for the OP, did you get a monitor yet and if so how is it?

Next, will I see a large difference spending $200 vs $300-400 for a monitor of similar size.

Finally, has anyone had an experience with a monitor being too big? Should I just be looking for the largest one I can find in my price/quality range or should I stick to a certain size range.

I will just be using the monitor for gaming and school stuff. Probably no movies or tv.

Thanks guys.
