Thanks for all the help, I have lots of good choices to look at.

What is the advantage of that $210 motherboard over a cheaper one?

45nm processors take in less power, cool better and overclock better. 65nm are the previous generation processors, which IMO, are still excellent.

That's excellent! :)

Now my only recommendation for a true enduring system is changing the case so that you don't use the power supply that comes with it. Power supplies that are supplied with the same branded case most of the time are low quality and tend to break sooner.

Here's my suggestion

Case:

Factored in the first case you had, with the new PSU and some sweet blue led replacement fans, $1371. Should be a sweet rig for a 24" monitor? Will that video card work well? Might as well make it a even $1400, what's a good $29 accessory?

Edit-How about a cd/dvd drive. :p

chupacabra, a little bit of research would suggest the general consensus is that the e8400 is better thn the q6600 for gaming at this point. The PC will most likely not be in use long enough to take advantage of programs which will be able to thread out tasks to 4 cares. The vast majority of video games and other programs simply will not be heavily used for a few years.

Dude, The thermaltake M9 is a sick assssssss case, seriously. I bought it from frys and then returned it because my pwr switch cable ripped outta the button, and when i took it back, they said the only one they had was the one on display so just picked up the cm690 :D

Don't get the 640mb GTS.

get the 3870X2 which is by far the best price/performance gpu on the market, or the G92 8800GTS for a good cheaper solution.

People are telling me to wait for the 4870. How much will they cost, how much better will they be?

Edit-I only see the 3870's in 1GB, and they are almost twice the 640MB GTS.

the 4870 is about 25% better than the 9800GX2 an will be around $350 - $400 USD.

now the 8800GTs 640M is a older core an only preforms around as good as a 3850.
just because it has more memeroy does not mean it's better a 3870x2 is more than twice as good than the 8800GTS 640M

I like the 8800 GTS G92, if I get an open box item do I need any cables? I could get it and a good cooler for the graphics card for the price of a regular card, and be able to overclock more.

Oh yeah, get the 4870 if you can wait then. BUT keep in mind that on release they will be hard to get and well overpriced due to demand.
