I have $1500 to build a new computer system, what should I pick if I'm going for an amd built system? AMD or INTEL for gaming? Can anyone show me what parts I should pick to build with? I have a 160gb maxtor sata hd.

I'll be playing games with it, and surfing the web that's about it. Right now I have an "all in wonder X800 XT" and that works well on my p4 2.66. This time I want to go all out and buy everything I can for speed, and raid it too.

why you want to upgrade the grafics? i mean th x800XT is a great card.
id rather wait a year, and then buy a new one, because no i hardly think it would be worth it.
you might want to upgrade your RAM to 1Gb and you'll be just fine with the system you have now.

Yeah dont spend more money on a graphic card rather than that spend it on 2 gigs of ram a sweet motherboard and a high end AMD processer. Dont forget about the PSU.

AMD X2, or 4000, or 3700 san diego, or FX series
Corsair, Geil, Mushkin, Kingston, Crucial 1gig dual channel ram, or 2 gigs dual channel ram
7800 GT or 7800 GTX, X1800 XL (You can buy one card now run it in 16x slot, and get another one later for SLI/crossfire sweetness!)
Abit Guru SLI Board, DFI SLI, Jetway SLI, ASUS SLI, Gigabyte SLI, Soltek, or wait for crossfire!! It even says it on the new ATI Boxes!!!
X-Fi Xtreme Music Edition, or X-Fi Platinum, or Audigy 2 Platinum/gamer
new 16MB Cache hard drive insane gaming burst speeds

ok right now this is what I have in my system:
2.66 ghz Dell 4600i
1gb corsair memory
160gb sata maxtor "xp on it"
80gb ide
256mb all in wondet 800xt

I'm thinking of getting a 3.2ghz ee for $380 on ebay,
get 2gb of pc 3200 memory $240 Newegg.

Think I should go with the upgrade? Rather than building a new system?

If you are going to build I'd go with

AMD A8N SLI Deluxe: http://xpcgear.com/a8nslideluxe.html

AMD 3000+ venice core(can be overclocked to around 2.7 ghz saving you money!): http://xpcgear.com/ada3000bpbox.html

BFG 7800 GTX OC'd: http://xpcgear.com/bfg7800gtxoc2.html

antec neopower PSU: http://xpcgear.com/antecneo480.html

Lain Li case: http://xpcgear.com/pcv1000sw.html

OCZ Ram: http://xpcgear.com/ocz1gb3500.html

Plextor CD-R/CD-RW: http://xpcgear.com/pxpx230abg.html

DVD/r/rw: http://xpcgear.com/px716sasw.html

CPU Cooler: http://www.frozencpu.com/cpu-tri-12.html

That system will fly throuhg anygame. Incase your not familiar, the AMD athalon 3000+ has the same core and chache as the 3800+. What does this mean? You can overclocked the 3000+ to the exact same speed(maybe even more) as the 3800+ and saves you lots of money.

If you are only upgrading, then get a new video card and new ram or something

why would you want to upgrade now?
i mean.. thats a great setup you have over there. ( should be able to play BF2 on alsmost highest settings.)
but.. the one thing you might want to upgrade, is maybe the CPU.
any idea what socket it is? and whats the maximum your motherboard supports?
and if you really want to, you could get a 2nd Gig of RAM. ( but that wouldnt be necesairy tough)

further, i wold save the monney till next year. ( probably then the Geforce 8 series is released. and with it, new Ati Cards.) but right now, upgrading from your system, simply would be a waste of monney :)
( with that, i mean buying a whole new system ofcourse ;) )

Finished my new build and went over budget

Well I already bought and assembled everything:
Amd Fx-57 - $815
Saphire X850 XT $330
Corsair XMS 2gb - $220
2 Wd Sata II drive - $160
Win Xp Sp2 OEM - $145
Abit An8 Ultra Motherboard - $115
ATX Blue Navigator Case w/ 500W Power Supply - $93
NEC Dvd 16x / 48x Cd Burner - $39
Plus Shipping and Handling brought everything to about $2000
So I did go a little over budget, not to mention the Dell 20.1 inch $419.
I bought all my products from Newegg except for the processor from Ebay. My system is top of the line
