3DMARK Test of 1070 very underwhelming?

I ended up with a score of 14408.

Their 4k gaming computer uses two 980's in SLI. Is one 1070 gtx really being outperformed to such a degree by an SLI setup?

3dmark scales really well for multi-gpu setups. You won't find this sort of scaling for SLi in a lot of the games.

You'll also find that with a SLi setup especially with 2 GTX 980s,

  • It costs more than a single 1070
  • draws a lot more power
  • pushes more heat into your system
  • performance is up and down depending if the game scales with multi-gpu properly.

Of course you can't break into the top 10%. I barely nudge in with a 1080.

Top 10% are normally reserved for people with flagship GPU's or multi-GPU setups partnered with a very capable CPU. As @Laquer Head said, it's totally meaningless.

Honestly, who are we trying to impress?

Bottom line, does it work and achieve what you want for game performance? Thats all you should care about,..online rep, street cred, and whatever the hell else people 'need' to achieve top number for is stupidity and such a waste.

I don't really need to impress anyone but myself, but if I can break into the top 10% it's still cool to get that kind of power for the lowest price I could.

Again, the top 10% are normally reserved for people with flagship GPU's or multi-GPU setups.

If you really want to try and nudge into the top 10, you will have to start to OC your 6700k and the GTX 1070.

EDIT: Also, I barely beat their "4K gaming PC" score with my rig. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/14546090

Ah, well that's certainly something to try. Speaking of which, I never did get my RAM up to 3200 in the BIOS screen as I didn't see an option for it. I'm not sure if it did it automatically or what. But speaking of nudging to the top 10, do you think I should upgrade monitors? My usual attitude is just reuse every peripheral until it dies, but in this case I'm using an old flat screen VGA monitor. Could that be affecting performance at all having to compress from this up-to-date rendering environment back to VGA? To me when people talk about getting new monitors to "take advantage" of new video cards, they just seem like enthusiasts who want to see every little pixel in perfect working order, but if it would affect the fps at all I might think about getting a new one. Also, I'm still running Win 7, so I'm sure the DirectX version I'm using is pathetic compared to what a 1070 gtx can make use of.

EDIT- Nice score. I got up to 92% when I forced my non-updating Windows to do some updates. I have the newest Nvidia drivers, but there's still a lot of software related issues that aren't up-to-date. Maybe some firmware too.

Well, now I tried win 10 on it to see if that would boost performance. I'm getting 66% on time spy. I having a hard time understanding these tests.
