Hi its black Fridays and i am planning to build a new pc around 500 or 600$. My pc part knowledge is really out of date...like many years old so i need some help here thanks.

If you can, please recommend me some specs, brand, parts. Thanks alot appreciate it. This is actually my first time building one, my desktop before was built by a friend but he won't be avaliable =/.
-I need a motherboard (clueless on how to pick)
-Processor - quad core (i think a 2.4ghz sounds good)
-Graphics card (i game a little bit, 512mb is good, 1gb is good too if not expensive )
-Ram 4gb ddr3 if not 6/8gb ddr2
-1Tb hardrive
-Power Supply - i tihnk ppl said to match ratings according to your mother board and videocard.
-cd drive/ dvd - no need (have from old pc)
-and other minor accessories have from old pc. Thanks alot guys.
-This pc is around 500, 600 including case, (maybe 40-80$ case?)
-Anything else i need thats important?

I found this one on new egg which seems pretty good. Should i build my own or just buy this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113115
Not too many reviews on it but it seems pretty decent. Open to any suggestions and comments THANKS

I just read from another forum, if i was to play a game like COD4 MW2, can this 500, 600$ computer handle?
---------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE

three thoughts:
1) why do you need 6/8 gb ram? what will you use your pc for?

B) cd/dvd-drive. unless your 'old' computer is about two years old, you will need a sata drive.

and cuatro - choose your motherboard with what will go in it. i.e. do you require more than one pci-e x16 slots? or any pci slots for sound/tuner cards etc. what cpu/memory combos and speeds does it support. unless you have a specific chip in mind: intel or amd, choose your other parts first.

Definately build, and no that gateway really isnt worth the price. Building a computer isnt all that hard, just requires an hour or two and a screwdriver(we can help you with a parts list)
http://www.computerforum.com/104641-how-build-computer-step-step-photos.html

Edit: Im going to merge your threads...not really a need to have two threads.

Also, as far as a Cd/dvd drive is concerned, there is no need for SATA drives, optical drives dont even come close to maxing out IDE.

Well, i suppose this 6/8 gigs of ram should last me many years and i am a gamer but without computer tech knowledge. I was also wondering how should i choose my mother board? pci-3 x16 slots i suppose are ram slots right? What should i look at when finding a mother board? Someone said that the Motherboards today fit pretty much universally to the processors and ram n what not out there. Well i see AMD out there so i guess i'll be getting a AMD brand.
if someone can recommend me parts from new egg that will be really helpful. thanks

Right now more than 4gb is not worth the price, and by the time you need more memory the prices will have dropped significantly on ddr3. DIMM slots are for memory, most amd motherboards will have four DIMM slots(enough to add another two sticks of memory down the road)

Also, as far as gpu's are concerned, the video memory(1gb/512mb/256mb/etc) is not what measures performance, but the actual computing power of the chip itself(eg- a 512mb 9800gtx will beat out a 1gb 9600gt).

I know that the Crucial Ballistix DDR2 RAM was terrible is there DDR3 any better?

Xclio Godspeed FTW the best case for the price.

Thank you so much i really appreciate it. If all turns well i will order the parts you recommended. i can knock off 100$ from os because my university offers student free window 7 =]. I don't mind using XP pro since i have it. (perfer over vista)
Another question, im pretty sure every parts fits well and works well, for the GPU is it enough to run games per say, COD4 (i play many online games and my old pc limits me from doing that) without lag n problems?

Well, if you can get the OS cheaper, bump the GPU up to one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130509 (great card for the price)

Ballistix ddr2 was good memory, wasnt the best overclocker but crucial memory is meant for stability vs speed. Their DDR3 is some good stuff as well for the price.

I'm thinking of Ballistix tracer, I ordered 3 sets one time and out of the 3 sets two of them had a bad stick.

Extra 10$ makes the GPU almost twice as better. I see that the radeon is 512 GDDR3 and the other one is 1gb DDR2. Radeon also says crossfire, i heard cross fire is better but what is it for actiually? would you recommend the Radeon over the EVGA?

Ok...so from here i took some parts and searched around and composed my own parts that i decided to buy if they are worth.

Case (PSU included):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156098
I love the case but for the power supply, i can't get too much info on it. it says it is built in. do you think i should get this?

Mobo:SAME no change;

CPU : SAME no change:

GPU: The choice recommended bomberboysk:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130509

Memory: (already bought, was on shell shocker deal on newegg for 70$)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211409

OS: I have free windows 7 =]

HDD: (downgraded to 500gb)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

TOTAL: 482 Tax not included, 55$ Mail-In rebate makes it to 427$
so basically i changed the case, psu, gpu, and memory

I am iffy on the PSU that comes with the case but i love the case. Think its ok to buy it?
Or should i just buy a seperate case n PSU.
Most importantly, will every part fit together perfectly? Here is where i have no knowledge. Thanks

That looks like a great deal on that RAM. I say go for it, it's not the best by any means but for the price you can't do better.

Generally speaking, That case is a total hunk of crap, it has a low end chinese power supply included with it, as well as mediocre cooling.
Also, 1gb of memory does not make a GPU twice as good, and the other cards i listed(eg- GTS250) have 512mb memory and are more powerful.

As far as the Adata memory, not the greatest stuff in the world but definitely better than OCZ and such.

slowly i am learning more about pc tech ty.

I see that the mobo you picked out for me supports CPU AM3 - Phenon x3 and x4. But the cpu u picked out for me is an anthlon x4. Would this affect anything?

Yea, im also looking into maybe a 256bit gdr3 gpu.
also mayb a mobo with 2 gpu socket.

Ok i found out SLI-Nevida, CF-Ati are for dual gpu. I think i will get gpu multi-compatible and a mobo with 2 gpu slots.
Any Suggestions?
ok I have decided on this GPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150397
good? (ignore cod4 but it is a good bundle)

More or less this is similar to the final one(case, psu might change, mobo+cpu seems a bit expensive but i think its worth)
3:Since most cases which come with a PSU seem very cheap...(is that true?) i should most likely buy these two seperate right?

COD4 isnt the most demanding game in the world, 4650 and higher should run it pretty much maxxed.

Newegg isnt working for me at the moment....

But yes, 99.99% of the time you should get the power supply separate from the case(Xclio goodpower 500W is one of the best budget power supplies out there)

That motherboard+CPU is a great deal with the combo savings, go for it.

If you plan on going crossfire in the future, go for a higher end power supply such as a 700W OCZ, or 650W corsair.

Again, that raidmax case is a total piece of garbage, steer far away from it and also the power supply it includes. A good cheap(er) case is the Coolermaster Elite 310 as well as the Coolermaster 690.

Third, that GPU is a waste of money. The 9600gt is lower end than the 9600GSO, and at that point i would spend the extra for a 4850. Also, that motherboard only supports crossfire, not SLI. With that said, i would recommend getting a single good gpu vs two cheap gpu's.
