512MB Cards

what? you can buy the 512mb video cards already???

WHERE?????
whats that have to do with this topic? It's about overclocking not how much video RAM he supposedly has

looks at nvidia's quadro, it has come in 512 models for a while now

I got it from bestbuy  everyone got my a giftcard for PC stuff at bestbuy for my B-day because they new i wanted parts...although ebay gift card would be better.....because that is where i got my memery sticks, CD and DVD drives from. alot of processers on ther ebarly go for less then buying it new, so i decided i would just buy one new.

Home use, nice gaming(thats why i got a 512MB video card, I figureed i may as well get one, since sooner or latter i will need one, since some games already require a 256MB), typing ALOT for school, Music, I plan to hook up a nice 5.1surround sound system.(one reason being i just won a 5.1surround sound card on ebay, they end pretty cheap on there, only 20$. and then i want to try and hook up my surround sound (5.1) speakers from my DVD player since almost none of my DVD's will work with surround sound anyways.

And i want it to be fast. :)

I hate to tell you this but to my knowledge all the 512mb video cards are professinal video cards. Which mean they not ment for gaming. meaning even with the 512mb it proberly wont be great for games.

Unless there is a new gaming video card I dont know of.

yeah that 512mb card is obviously a workstation card, which will suck for gaming. Post what model card it is. I've only seen a picture of 1 video card with 512mb that's actually made for gaming, it was in an article about an ati x850xt 512mb that was on display somewhere in texas.
EDIT-the article http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21438
obviously this card hasn't been released so 99.99% chance you have a workstation card.

3Dlabs Wildcat VP990 Pro 512MB Video Card

Thats what i have, and im pretty sure it will work well for gaming. My friend has the same model and it plays halflife 2 great.

you should go to videocardforum.com and ask how it will perform. The card was designed as a workstation card, for designers, it wasn't designed for gaming. I would sell it and get a 6800 ultra.

Both ATi and nVidia have 512MB cards however neither are productiion level.

Uh huh except for the minor glitch that the Wildcat isnt excatly what you'd call DirectX or OpenGL "compatible". And would complelely get pwnd since its more concerned with pixel precision than fillrate or geometry processing rate....

this is a direct qoute

"Wildcat VP uses 3Dlabs’ ground-breaking Visual Processing Architecture to integrate over 200 32-bit processors into a single Visual Processing Unit (VPU) for a staggering 200 Gflops or more and over 1.2 TeraOps of programmable power. Wildcat VP and Wildcat VP Pro’s power and flexibility provide industrial-strength 2D and 3D performance, quality, and functionality for OpenGL® and Direct3D® applications."

I see OpenGL in that part of the description.

Note how I say "compatible" -- whilst you CAN get them to work in D3D and OGL modes (as anyone whos done animation knows), they dont push out the framerates as that is not their task. Their role is to ensure that pixels are put exactly where they should be -- not to shove the pixels out as fast they can -- this is a hardware constraint. So if you think you're gonna play HL2 in DX9 mode at a decent resolution and settings you're going to be in for a big dissapointment :)

Iv'e seen the same exact card play HL2 before.....I stand by my opinion.
Nobody said you didnt have to stand by your opinion. Tell me, what was the fps? And which motherboard do you intend to plug it into?

I havn't decied on witch mother bored im getting yet, i was going to get a LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR, ut i dont think so any more.
