64-bit versions (for dummies) - happiness vs. headaches?

im not sure

on 2 different MS sites, it says yes, then no. Know for sure it doesnt work on 2000 pro, so i would assume probably not.

wonder what the effect of /3gb on xp x64 would be (based on server 2003)
 
well im using xp pro x64...

iv had no problems except the intial setup of drivers for sound and modem...after that everything runs great and fast :)

even install printers and and driver for everythign else works fine with no complications yet.

yeah the trick with drivers is if the xp ones dont work, try the server 2003 ones

vista 64 has better driver support
 
I use x64 Ultimate only because it was given to me. I only have 4GB RAM so it's not like I really need it to utilize a bunch of RAM. It seems very stable but I don't really know if it seems any faster. I do not run any 64-bit applications though. Drivers have never been an issue with my hardware.

SO, if you're a user that doesn't have more than 4 GB of RAM and does not run any 64-bit applications, what are the advantages of x64 over x86?

Is it any more secure than x86? Thanks.
 
nothing whatsoever, in fact its worse, because of its poor driver support record

if you need 64 bit apps (some scientific and server software) and / or lots of RAM, 64 bit is the way to go. Otherwise its useless.
