7600gs

What do you guys think about the 7600GS? I was looking at one that was overclock to 550/850 and had a fan on it for $129 (-$20 mail-in).

Well i'm selling the x1600PRO on ebay because it just plain stinks for gaming. My old x800GTO was around 30% better. And from reading some reviews the 7600gs is almost twice as good as the x1600PRO in some benchmarks and in some games.

Im really having a tough time deciding if i should get a mid-ranged card, or save up some money and buy an x1800XT for $300. The only thing thats keeping me from doing that is seeing how quickly the prices drop on high-end cards, because a few months ago the x1800XT was around $500.

BTW: this is the card i was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130011

EDIT: Some people also said that two 7600GS's outperform a 7900GT... and if thats true then maybe later i can get another one or something.

I would just save up a bit of money and get a slightly higher range card, not top of the line, but not midrange. And personally i would go with one card than sli-ing

Here's an SLI review: http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hardware/1597_1.html. On the whole the 7900GT is better, but also almost $100 more.

Given the lackluster competition in the ~$200 range, the SLI'd 7600GSs actually seem to be worth it. For a single card at this price range, you're looking at either an overpriced 7600GT or X1800GTO, and the 2 7600GSs would beat either of theirs cards.

You might also want to consider a 7600GT at the ~$150 range.

Wow, the 7600GS's in SLI seem pretty good, they seem to be on par with a 7900GT... and about $100 cheaper.

7600gt is better
i'd get the 7900gt though, seems like the best performance for my money.
of course, its not worth it to upgrade from a 7800gt...
maybe i'll just wait for the next few series of cards..
next time i'll make sure theres no rumors of a newer better card coming out in like 1month lol like it did this time! 7900gt > 7600anything
but 7600gt > 7600gs obviously
not a worthwhile upgrade to go from x1600pro to 7600gs (or even gt) if you ask me.
the 7900gt is worth it though definitely!

well if i want to get a top-of-the-line card, i'f go with the x1800XT instead of the 7900GT.

I may just wait until graduation to get a new card, since i'll be getting around $400-$500.

Is it? I think that 7900GT beats X1800XT because you can OC it much much higher.. And 7900GT just is a better card.

HA the x1800xt is NOT better than a 7900gt.
thats a laugh!
check this out
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html
it doesn't have the 7900gt on there, but the 7800gt performs better in AOE3...
most other benches the 7800gt loses but you can pretty much assume the x1800xt to be as good as the 7800gtx...
note the 7900gt is better than a 7800gtx... by alot.
the x1800xt is definitely a good card if you're playing f.e.a.r. or COD2, no doubt about that... its got (MUCH) higher clocks (note: THG o/ced it) which is probably why it won so easily against the 7800gtx and the 7800gtx was at default clocks.
plus, a 7900gt has much higher clocks, and is very overclockable as well..
not to mention that the x1800xt they used had 512mb of video memory, the 7800gtx only had 256mb... that probably crippled it by alot for those games
(this is making me REALLY want a new video card by the way.. ughh)

I would definitely get 7900GT instead of X1800XT...
hell no... the x1800xt is 512mb...

if u getting a $125 dollar card, i would recomend trying to wait and get a x850xt...only card with 16pixel pipelines in that price range and it has good memory clock and core clock...

of course ur gona say that... see the avatar... NVIDIA FANBOY...
that is a no brainer that the x1800xt is better then the 7900GT... but the 7900GTX is better then the x1900xtx, thats for sure...

the 7900GTX is the best card for gaming definatly, and the 7600GS is best budget gaming card, but the x850xt is better then the 7600GT, and the x1800xt is better then the 7900GT

you're right... i thought they made 7900gt 512mb's i was wrong...
so the 7900gt is better than the x1800xt gpu, its just that the x1800xt comes with 512mb and the 7900gt doesn't.
btw i don't think the 7900gtx is better than the x1900xtx...
i thought they were on par, one's better for some games the other is better for others..

Pretty good score in 3DMark05, 100ish lower than mine but it's ok, how much did you pay for it?
$129, but it has a $20 mail-in rebate.

And the version i have is overclocked an extra 150/50, and it has a fan on it. So it can overclock higher than the heatsink versions, and at "stock" it will be better than the one in the benchmarks.

That's nice, I would say somewhere around 7000 if not more in 3DMark05 after overclocked. You got a pretty good deal there. But what the heck, you'll be upgrading soon anyways. :P
