8500GT or 7600GT.

I see the 7600Gt has a faster clock speed, but the 8500GT supports DX10. I plan on ordering my build together and pretty much have all my parts picked out except for my graphics card, and a few other things. My build budget allows for about $125. I can get the XFX 7600GT on newegg or get the Gigabyte 8500GT for $97 with a game. Which would you get? I'm not a gamer, and probably won't play graphics intensive games, but I think I might get the 8500GT because it has the support for future games. Just one thing though, would the 8500GT even be powerful enough to run DX10 games good enough to be able to play them(not a gamer, so it may be a stupid question as i don't even know if there are games out running DX10 yet)
 
The 8500 probably wont be that powerful with Dx10 games. But i think its more capable than the 7600 and not much more expensive to boot so i'd get the 8500. You won't be able to play future games at their max but with a budget of $125 thats to be expected:P
 
From what I've seen the 8500 is a pretty low end card. If you're going to get any of the 8 series cards, I'd go with one of the 8600's.

Also, clock speed means nothing :P Well...basically...
 
The whole notion of a dx10 card is not really correct, it is more like cards that support dx10. Regardless, go with what you want, or take people suggestions. If you wanted confirmation of your decision, you are looking in the wrong place. Most people who posts in others threads disagree rather than agree.
 
I would also throw my vote in for the 7600GT; if you want a DX10 card, I'd recommend you spend a bit more.
 
ok, so it looks like a lot of mixed reactions. I read around online and it seems like the 8500GT is more comparable to the 7600GS. How good do you think the 8500GT would play DX9 games? I don't have a desktop right now(sold it so I could finance my build), but when I did, it had a nvidia 6600 so I'm sure both the 7600GT and 8500GT are better cards either way.
 
The 8500 will play DX9 games like a 7600gs, like you said. Now imagine slapping DX10 compatibility on a 7600gs and you get the idea. So in the end you'll either get a less powerful card, with a pretty useless DX10 orientation, Or the slightly more capable card, though not exactly future proofed. It's up to you.. My experience with the gt is incredible. The only game out there i can't play maxed settings on is Oblivion and maybe F.E.A.R.. and i can still manage the close to high settings. All this for $90! :D But like i said, it's up to you OP.
 
Well the problem is, there might be games that ONLY run on DX10 compatible hardware so in that situation a 8500 is better than a 7600GS. If it was me I would definitely get DX10 graphics cards from now on.
 
get the 8500 cause in the future alot of graphic program are gonna use dx 10 and that card at least counts

i havnt researched much on the 8500 but it shouldnt be to much worse then the 7600 if it even is. plus if ur getting a e6600 i would just throw in a 8600gt and maby instead of 260gb hard drive get a 150 idn what motherboard did u plan on buying?
 
None as of yet that i'm aware of. Crysis will be one of the first.. And i can see it eating the 8500 for breakfast. If you want to play DX10 comfortably then i suggest saving your money for the 8800gts, or a HD 2600 XT/PRO (when they're released). The pro will be released for around $150.

But if you want something now or are just fine playing DX9 (which i'm sure will be continued for awhile) then get the 7600gt or 8500.
 
well, you said you dont atually game that much AND you geta free game with the 8500. You won't even have to upgrade in the future. If you're not a heavy gamer, having the settings a lil low shouldn't hurt. Get the 8500, unless you plan on upgrading to a better dx10 card when dx10 games come out.
 
There is no benchmark for 8500GT YET

But I'm sure that 7600GT is much better. Personally I would get 7600GT.
 
The 7600GT and 8500GT have similar specs, but in todays games the 7600GT will most likely outperform the 8500GT in a handful of games.

But theres also having DX10 to consider, as well as price.

I would probably go with the 8500GT, unless your planning on getting another DX10 card sometime soon.

So as I said before, they are pretty equal.
 
but wont DX 10 games run differently making then run more efficient and faster thus using less processing power to run games :confused:
