8600GT To Launch At $130?

You will need Vista and DX10 games to take advantage of the DX10 features though

I have heard that DX10 cards are backward compatible and can run DX9 games too.But don't know wether it runs in XP or not.

That's ok for me coz main reason for me to buy this card will be playing games. And when this card will release there won't be any games for vista,so i will stick up with XP till there will be lots of games for vista.

If any of you are in school (anywhere from 1st grade to grad-school), you can get a student Vista for anywhere between 5-50$. It's a very cheap way to take advantage of DX10. I know I plan on doing it!

Where did you hear that? I know they offer student discounts, but $5 for Vista is highly unlikely.

And $5-$50 is a large range.

actually is free in my school for the first...... download/copy then is like 10 dollars + 5 dollar shipping :)

This is music to my ears. This 8600 GT seems like a happy medium. But I do wonder how much the R600 will cost, and will it bring out all the different varients of the cards at once, or will they wait like nvidia did, and bring out the big guns first?

I am wondering which one is better? 8600GT or 7900GT?
But of course still need to wait for the release of 8600.

I think 8600GT will be the better one.Because it is a DX10 card and 7900GT is DX9 card.So being DX10 card 8600 would be the better one in my opinion.

will the card coming out at $130 be worth it?
like would it be wise to replace my 7900gs with it?

cause i am buying server parts for myself, which will lower my money down, but i get a semi steady income so.

Would it be worth it?

I can always throw the 7900 in my other computer ...

well, so far, lets see, the 6600GT was better then the 5800 or w/e was the top 5x00 series and comparable to the 6800 vanilla, the 7600GT was better then the 6800GT and comparable to the 7800GT actually, so imo the 8600GT should be better or comparable to the 7900GS.

When XP first came out, my sister who went to a University got a copy for 5 bucks. It all depends on what deal your school has with Microsoft (it's different at every school). I heard it from one of my computer science professors.

where are you guys from? i've never heard of any such deal. Maybe i'll look around at my school

i dont believe thats possible, because even if you did that, you would'nt be a administrator on your own computer, i think that your computer would be linked with the school
