8600gts...

I am going to get this card, but I have a few questions before I buy...

1. What kind of PSU do I need in order to power this card safely? I opened up my desktop PC case and it says 300 watts as max power on the inside label.

2. I am upgrading from integrated ATI Xpress200 series card, so this new card should be compatible with my computer/motherboard so I just plug and play the new card? Is there any specific procedures I should follow to install new card if that's the case?

3. How does this 8600gts handle graphics? For example, does Age of Empires 3 run smoothly at max graphics settings with little or no lag?

4. I can get this card for $165.83 on Amazon.com (EVGA version) or for 179.99 (XFX version) or for $184.99, (EVGA superclocked version)

Link to the supeclocked version: http://www.amazon.com/eVGA-e-GeForc...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187805166&sr=8-3

What's recommended from these three options, as they all look good to me and fits my budget.

Well, eVGA e-GeForce 8600 GTS Superclocked 256 MB Graphics Card is the title as shown on the Amazon page, so I am not sure it's actually 512mb.

I got a gift card which I can use on amazon, so I only have to pay the difference, which makes this a good deal for me. That is why I'm using Amazon for this. :)

A 350w PSu is recommended with at least 18 amperes on the +12v.

Thats a horrible power supply for anyone that wants to power a high end system or for a gaming computer. But for a budget PC it will be fine.

lol my antec 800W PSU is noisy as hell!!! all you all suggested that ! why didn't nobody tell me it is noisy as BEEP* and cost me 180 bucks..

awwww dam it.........>_< !! well.... i got a quad core and lots other stuff like 3 90mm fan and a 25CM fan. 8800gts and stuff. that drains a lot of power you know and OMG>... is there a quality 800W psu that is not noisy ??

Great, thanks guys~! I will get a 500w PSU, isntall that. Then get a 8600 gts gfx card (superclocked version seems good), install that. If that all works well, then yup :D

Any old 500w just won't do. You have to look at brand and amperes and a virtual ton of other options.. but that's why we're here.

Something like this'd be good.

ok. this is what my current PSU looks like (without that 0/I on, off switch)

hermeslyre, the 500w PSU you're recommending, it is fine with me.

But is it the same size or about the same size as the old PSU I have which I pictured above or is most psu's standard size? I just want to know if it will fit my computer with no problem. If this is good, then I am happy with my computer once I get all the new stuff installed properly. :)
