8800GT 512mb

I was thinking of upgrading from my 7600GT which while most laugh I got medium settings on crysis which blew me away I love the card very dependable but its time to upgrade.

Card in question is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

Specs
MSI K9N SLI-F nForce 570LT Socket AM2+
2x 2GB G-skill PC6400
450w VX450w Corsair (http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/vx.aspx)
X2 4400+ with Freezer Pro 64 cooling (28c idle 38c high load with fan in wrong direction :o)
1x 500GB HD

Sadly my board is not PCI 2.0 ready so this is the last upgrade this rig will get. Next year I will upgrade to a pure quad system and give this to my old man since he only plays WoW which this will max settings on.
Though I might get a X2 5400+ just to keep the rig going bit longer.

My question is it doesn't have a power req on newegg for the 8800GT.
I also heard that leaving the stickers on the card would cause it to over heat with stock cooling. I don't plan to over clock and my room stays @ 80F year round.

So can I power it I also have the 6 pin connector and is there really a heat issue with the stock? Also note ppl laugh but I hang a 120mm fan on the backside of my GPUs after my 7600GT was getting so hot on the backside it semi warped the card so I will do the same with this card as well.

The 8800gt uses around 110-130w at full load, which your PSU can provide gracefully. Which stickers? You can't pull of the barcode, obvious reasons. Any other peculiarly placed stickers can be removed, to what effect i'm unsure.

There were some 8800gt what used 2 6pin power connectors, I believe they only needed one. The 8800gt's could in fact run hotter than usual, and you're not giving it any favors in such an ambient temp. I don't think it will reach dangerous, card damaging heat levels, but it will certainly increase tendency to artifact and what not.

The sticker I mean is on the side of the heat sink. I saw a few ppls reviews claiming it reduced its heat dispersion. When taken off it lowered their temps by 1-2c. Seemed kinda far fetched but wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

I didn't think 80F was to bad sure beats the 100 I use to live through ^-^
I live on a second story and I use to have 3 "dead" spots in the addict/sides of my room which baked my room like a oven on GOOD days my room would be 5F hotter then outside. Now its 92 outside and 83 inside my room so doing better now.

Few things I do during summer though to help my PC out.
I run a small 12x12 or so box fan most the time on low/medium then high when gaming during summer.
I also have 1 120mm fan that I hang from my case side/psu that hovers directly over my GPUs back side. I noticed doing it with my 7600GT dropped temps by 5-6c.

So the GPU will have some support. I figure I might buy that new Accelero S2 if it gets to hot. Whats the "danger" temps on this card? I read 100c but that seems little to high. My 7600GT "danger" was 70c.

Either case thank you very much :)

Ah. It might hold some truth, HS stickers are sometimes taken off, though I'm not at all certain the temp decrease is always noticeable.

Yeah, It's not so bad. All those measures will probably keep things nice and steady, I don't see you having any big heat problems. Most VGA units these days can handle up to 100c-120c, before permanent damage is incurred, But anything from 80c-90c or lower can cause problems/shutdowns for certain cards. Luckily the 8800gt has a high temp threshold, even a relatively high temp of 80c is considered normal.

No hay problema

Just curious have the fixed the issue with the 8800GT where the fan would only run @ 20% of its speed or do you still have to use the software like rivatuner to speed it up?
