A look at how expensive video cards are in Australia...

Let's look at how expensive video cards are here in Australia with the EVGA GTX 470 and GTX 480 cards:

And the prices in the US are $349 and $499 for the GTX 470 and GTX 480, respectively. Let' conver the Australian prices into US dollars:

GTX 470: $619.85 AUD = $569.635 USD

GTX 480: $888.88 AUD = $816.838 USD

Pretty expensive huh... almost double the prices! I thought my XFX 5770 for $250 AUD was cheap!
 
yeah dude what are you talking about? the boonies don't make a difference. its the fact that he lives in another country. america dominates the global economy and therefore has the cheapest prices on most things.

Not really. Japan, for example, has far cheaper prices. Even quite comparable to the US. Australia and New Zealand aren't large markets, and therefore the demand isn't high enough for suppliers to bring them in in bulk.
 
linkin, as previously stated, there are certain physical, economic, and geographic barriers which cause this. We've just got to deal with it.

Just be glad Australia did so well during the worst of the recession, remember we have a lot of things other countries don't.

ha ha, totally kidding. can't you guys buy stuff from here and have it shipped or would that not be cost effective?
 
It is because Australia has giant bugs, and people are too scared to go down there and everything can kill you with one bite. That is why it is more expensive. I mean who wants to deal with the crazy giant bugs Australia has?

thats what I said. its who dominates the economy. America, Japan, UK, China etc.

Yea. Seriously, people are taking too much profit from delivering over countries.. It's like 25-35% more when not being in the U.S.. why!!

Supply and demand, it's been that way since the beginning of time when things were shipped by boat across the oceans. You know where IPA beer got the name from? From it being shipped from the UK to India and them (the shippers) having to keep putting hops in the beer so it wouldn't spoil. So, it had that hoppy taste, and people also paid a ton for it be imported back then.

the USA is the number 1 consumer market in the world, so most things will be cheaper here technology wise.

I'm going to have to agree, my guess is that 90% of the cards get carried off by these huge bugs, or some reason or another
 
What the hell sort of bug is that? I live here and i've never seen one.

And it's not just video cards either, it's everything computer related. some thigns are cheaper though...

and no, it's not cost effective to buy things in the US and have them shipped, because of the outrageous shipping prices people like to charge... and it takes longer, in general.
 
People here don't like 'em things. And for a good reason, too. I mean, you think $500 would be enough for a pretty damn great barbie, but no, the bloody thing turns into a black, gooey mass that smells horrible and doesn't even come off the grill without a hammer. At least here even the crappiest sausages edible, and you can get heaps for a few bucks. Bloody hell...
 
Man you are not looking at the right place. Go to MSY and check the price.
an Inno3D GTX 470 is $AUD 460
and GTX480 is $AUD 699.
Don't waste your money on eBay Australia.
