That's not remotely true. Don't worry about the 3.0 and 1.0 spec for PCI-E. Maximum bandwidth =/= used bandwidth. The difference between PCI-E x16 3.0 and x16 1.1 is easily within 5-10% max. That's negligible.
Hopefully this isn't considered "off topic" but I did want to clear something up and you seem to know what you're talking about.
Even with my ancient mobo, if I were to buy a PCIE 2.0 or 3.0 card and pop it in there, what you're saying is that the card would not work at maximum efficiency or output, however you want to put it but would still work for my application and be able to do the job? Hopefully I don't sound stupid but I've been out of the building community for far too long.

You absolutely don't need a damn GTX 1050. That's over kill for that old ass rig and the games you play. Just get a GTX 560TI or something there abouts and you'll be golden. Also add a 500 watt PSU.

I have an EVGA version myself I bought from EVGA's B-Stock website. Been kicking for at least 6 years now. Been playing C&C Generals Zero hour for life! Also BFBC2, Ghost Recon, BF2 AIX mod, GTA IV, GTA III, GTA Vice City, C&C III and Red Alert. The 560ti does the job.

If you want to bump it up a notch, go with a 2GB version of the GTX 750TI which will run around $80-$100.

You are the man Agent Smith. Glad to see some other C&C lovers around. I'm a RA2YR and TSFS man myself. I've never bought from ebay before but I'll give it a shot. Thank you for your help and expertise. (And also not inflating my budget to the limit)
