All-in-One Computer for Gaming

Hey guys!

I'm looking to cross over from console gaming to PC gaming and am trying to decide which setup is best for me.

I like the idea of an All-in-One computer because of its portability compared to a desktop as I would like the option of moving it from room to room within my house without too much hassle.

But what are people thoughts on the AIOs? I will be playing mostly RPG type games like Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, Skyrim and I really just want everything to run quickly and smoothly on the games best settings - anything above that is a bonus.

I'm hoping to spend no more than $1000.

Any advice is really appreciated!

All in ones aren't made for gaming. You will need a custom built desktop for that.

Not at all? Laptops can be used for gaming; why not All-in-Ones?

If I were to go the Desktop route how portable could I make it? I suppose potentially all that would be needed to be plugged in is the power supply and then the connection between the tower and monitor (wireless mouse and keyboard). That would mean only 2 cords...

You can buy gaming laptops but you can't buy gaming all in ones. And technically, gaming should only be done on desktops because of the heat issue.

Do you know how to build a system? You can probably save some money building it yourself. They only give you a one year parts warranty where as if you buy and build most parts come with a 3 year warranty or lifetime. I'll see what the price would be at the newegg canada website.

For that price do they build it for you as well? Cause that price is cheap. Newegg canada is at 1082 without shipping.

Yeah, build your own, its so simple, nobody understands how simple it is until they build one. 2 hours of building, and a 40 minute video.

So this seems to be in my budget but would I need to buy anything else? Or is that all I need.

Sorry, although I'm confident I could build a pc myself I do have no experience at this time.

Just punched it all in in newegg.ca and came to just over $1100 with shipping.

Actually that's without a monitor and the HDD from the broken link.

Realistically how many years would this rig allow me to play games on max settings?

Really, that system is tiny, and you are spending extra to make it tiny. So, realissticly, it can play only most games on max now, not bf3. In a year, stressful games may notbrun very well. If you can go from tiny to small, you can get a small case with a handle.

As much as I would like it to be be small I will not be able to sleep well at night if I dont believe it was a good investment lol.

I suppose in all honestly Im going to end up shooting for the best performance to cost ratio.

Anyone have any advice with that in mind

Thanks for all the help so far!

Sorry about the link; it won't seem to work no matter how many times I copy it . It's a Western Digital WD1003FBYX. I'm a big fan of WD's high-end drives, since they have 5-year warranties. I'll look up some bigger case options for you in order to fit a better video card, but I have a feeling it may press your budget a bit.

I found some alternatives. You could use either of these cases:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112347

Each case would require a physically larger power supply, which is actually cheaper:

You could use as GPU such as this:

A GPU of this caliber would be required to play a game such as BF3 at ultra detail. However, the original GPU I chose could play BF3 at low detail, and possibly medium detail. This article outlines the difference:

There's a good chance that in the future, faster single-slot cards will be available. Considering this assumption, you would probably be fine going with the smaller case if you want it to be ultra-portable. However, for greater upgradeability, a larger case will work fine as well.

Ok so this Rigg is in my price range:

http://www.wintroniccomputers.com/page/ecom-catalog?catid=976&pid=3797

Cooler Master HAF912 TOWER +CoolerMaster Silent Pro 850watt,AMD Quad Core X4 A8-3870(3Ghz),Asus F1A75-M PRO,Corsair 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz,Kingston 128GB (SSD)+ 2TB (SATA3) , Sapphire AMD HD7770 1GB ,LG DVD+-RW

Does this seem well priced for whats included?

Anything that is below par?

Ok so I think i will be gong with this since it fits my budget nicely. How long could i expect to be able to play on high settings? 2 or 3 years hopefully?? Should it be easily upgraded?
