AMD Athlon 64 System

Hello!

After about a days learning all about AMD 64's and their motherboards I thought I might aswell work towards building one. I'm not going to buy a top-of-the-range motherboard and CPU, but I want something that will last, and doesn't 'eat' up my money.

I'm not asking you about how much RAM I need or what Graphics Card I should use... All I'm asking is what you think to the CPU and the Motherboard being used in conjunction with one another. Idealy, it's going to be used for gaming, but I don't want extremely good quality becuase I know that it will cause me to spend shed loads of money - which I don't want. All I want is stable gaming performance ;)

This is the system:

Gigabyte K8NF-9 nForce4 (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard

*Can anyone tell me how much better an nF4U would be rather than just an nF4?*

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939)

*I would choose perhaps a 3200+ or the 3500+ but purely because of my budget, I have to stick to that one.*

Do you think I should change anything?

Thank you.

:)

Ya drop the mobo and vid, get a NF3U and 3500

Vid? Unless that means something other than Video Card, can you please tell me? Because I didn't say anything about a Video Card

Wouldn't I bottleneck the system though? With a really good processor and an NF3U?

If you get an NF4 ... you're getting a PCIe video card ... so when you get a NF3 (which uses AGP) ............ [should be evident] ;)

I wouldnt have suggested it. :)

I'm not using the AGP graphics card in my signature (I'd use a PCI-Express Graphics Card!) I'd buy a cheap PCI-Express card until I have more money (probably the GeForce 6200 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI). So, what do you think? Should I stick with the NF4?

wouldnt have suggested it

:P lol!

Already three steps ahead of you ... hence i said .. dont use PCIe vid card ..... by the time a PCIe-only card can beat the snot out of a comparable AGP card, your setup will be long gone .. so like i said.... save your money

Why are you so clever??!! And who said it was a WHOLE 3 steps? Perhaps it's just 1 step :P

Could you suggest an NF3U board? The only one which I could find was:
Gigabyte GA-K8NSN-939 nForce3 Ultra

How long do you think it will be unitl PCI-e cards can 'beat the snot' out of AGP cards?

Thanks Praetor

:)

As i said in the other thread you asked about ... 2 years

Did I not tell you I'm the stupidest and most forgetful man on planet earth? :P

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
DFI Lanparty 250 UT

I think I might go with Gigabyte GA-K8NSN-939 nForce3 Ultra.

Thanks Praetor and Echo for helping me decide :)
