Intel is a much larger company. AMD is not able to keep up with Intel in the R&D area, Yes that's a given. But Amd competes in different areas; such as expanding their current tech, Bringing performance/cost to the market, so on. Each company excels in different areas, and Amd is going to bring down the cost of it's current line-up because Intel has the slightly superior chip so it can compete.
 
AMD will be pouring money into the Fusion chips no doubt so they can leave Intel floundering on the integrated platform thank to ATi's help. Should be good for lower-end machines that don't need external cards.
 
i want to see what AMD are releaseing next for my next system.

i was looking at the C2D but as i wont be building a new just yet i have plenty of time to see what AMD come out with.

I know someone who works in PR with Intel, that could be one reason, I don't need to do research. I don't get personally offended, not over something stupid. I have visioned their chips as always being bad, and I have heard several stories about them burning out and destroying themselves. AMD's chips will destroy themselves when getting to hot and Intel will just shut-down.

And if you've ever owned and AMD powered computer...you know that is a pack of lies. AMD computer's have a "shutdown" temperature just like Intel's have/had. This is old technology, and it's an old rumor, that AMD chips get hot and explode/melt...while Intel's don't.

I encourage you to try an AMD computer on your next go around. There's nothing to be afraid of. I just went out and bought my first Intel powered laptop in...6 years? Little Core Duo laptop...loving it so far. But I still kept my Sempron powered laptop...because I love it even more ;)
 
While Intel was using the high clocked netburst architecture, which really horrible, especially when compared clock for clock with an A64.

The point of netburst was to pack a ton of clock cycles in, not to compete with a clock effecient CPU. It didn't matter than an A64 could perform the same clocked lower because the P4 was clocked higher :P Netburst wasn't a bad idea, at least they tried something that wasn't a refresh on P6. OK it didn't work that well because of heat problems, if it had scaled better without all the heat everyone would be saying how great it is, instead it's everyones favourite thing to bash.

It's not a rumor, some did because of a thermal diode that didn't respond fast enough. It has been fixed though and you had to have a critical cooling failure for it to happen.
There was a video were some kids faked an amd chip exploding. They put a small explosive (probably a firecracker or something similar) under the CPU. They showed the computer 'running' in windows but of course it wasn't, no fans were spinning or anything. Then they removed the heatsink and set off the explosive then the camera pans back to the monitor which is showing a bluescreen. It's stupid and fake.

Yes there is, but they don't just do CPU research. Intel drives a lot of technology, but as much as they do I'm pretty sure IBM still does more across as many fields if not more.

Haha, I remember that video. Someone posted it here on the forums a long time ago.

I'm pretty sure the AMD overheating/melting problem was before Socket-A, wasn't it? How many years is that? And people still like to bring it up and say it's a problem AMD has today with modern chips. Aieeee! :mad: It boils my blood.

indeed. well.. its plain and simple, if AMD was as bad as the intell fanboy's said, they wouldnt have been around anymore ;) (vice versa ofcourse) they're both great brands. altough, AMD clearly has the nicer case badges! :P
 
Alright, Alright, since AMD is gonna lower their prices, I might build my brother an AMD PC. I don't know what is new with them or what is best. I will need something Mid-High range.

whilst i dont echo the sentiments of the insults i do believe your being rather blinded to AMD with false claims about their reputation.

At least you accepted it may be worth trying an AMD as they are still cracking for cost effective power....

My point was that you seem to know little to nothing about the two companies and their processor technologies, and the only info about both companies, is the info you get from an INTEL public relations employee.

I'm not saying I like or dislike either. It's just that your blind opinions and statements (like was stated) show you are very ill-informed about anything discussed here.

The new intel badges are ok looking too. They aren't green, but they look a lot cleaner than the old intel inside logo.

It was socket A. Athlon XPs were toasters :)
