AMD or INTEL

Intel all the way, AMD yes they are cheap but they overclock badly, and there are more LGA 775s and 1366s than AMD motherboards :D stupid pins on the cpu :P

The Intel i5 and i7 are better processors than the Phenom II processors. But Phenom II Quad-Core Processors are good and powerful chips and do overclock well.

Performance.

Hyperthreading and Triple Channel memory. Neither are available on AMD systems.

+1

Don't forget if you have a Microcenter within driving distance - you can save a ton on the CPU's. The Core i5, and i7 CPU's. They are selling the i7 920's for 199 - and the other core i5, i7's are at similar discounts.

Comparing the i5 with Phenom II 965... the i5 does perform a bit (I wouldn't say noticeably) better than the Phenom. The phenom does cost 15$ more (but I imagine that would balance out in motherboard cost). Plus the i5 build is going to support triple-channel Ram and such that the AMD wouldn't. So yes, it is a better processor in both speed and value. Not sure how they'd compare overclocking though.

Also, ITT: Fanboys

No, i5 and i7 8xx don't support Triple channel Ram.

It is only LGA 1366 processors that support Triple channel. Socket 1156 only use dual channel.

Really? My bad. Duly noted though. I just made the assumption since it came out after i7  I apologize if I misled anyone.
