AMD Phenom 9500 on newegg

These things have a flaw in there errata in the TLB and when overclocked, and the L3 is loaded will lock up. There not worth buying till the B3 stepping comes out.

Well there's also the L3 cache, but I don't know how effective that is.

As more and more processors begin to include L2 cache into their architectures, Level 3 cache is now the name for the extra cache built into motherboards between the microprocessor and the main memory.

* L1 cache - Then the level 1 cache comes next. It is logically the closest high speed memory to the CPU core / registers. It usually runs at the full speed (meaning the same as the CPU core clockspeed). L1 often comes in size of 8kB, 16kB, 32kB, 64kB or 128kB. But, it is very high speed even though the amount is relatively small.

* L2 cache - The next level of cache is L2, or level 2. Nowadays L2 is larger than L1 and it often comes in 256kB, 512kB and 1,024MB amounts. L2 often runs at 1/4, 1/2 or full speed in relation to the CPU core clockspeed.

* L3 cache - Level 3 cache is something of a luxury item. Often only high end workstations and servers need L3 cache. Currently for consumers only the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition even features L3 cache. L3 has been both "on-die", meaning part of the CPU or "external" meaning mounted near the CPU on the motherboard. It comes in many sizes and speeds.

The L3 cache has been seen in high end Intel processors before, but they were quickly stopped. The latency for L3 cache is pretty high and being the 3rd place the CPU looks for info, it probably isn't that affective.

Darn, that stinks. So overall how is that compared to a E6850/Q6600?
 
According to tomshardware, Q6600 is around %13.6 faster than phenom 9600 on average. And thats phenom 9600, not the 9500 on newegg

Didnt you leave the second part off.

The Phenom 9600 is about 13.5% slower than Intel's Q6600 in our benchmarks. On the other hand, its price is also 13.6% lower than that of its direct competitor.

Well if you already had a cooler, ClubIT sell's the OEM for around the 9500's price. Not bad :cool:
 
I dont think the AM2+, either the processor or motherboard will be worth buying this year. Not untill the B3 stepping Phenom comes out and some lower end boards. Dont have any idea why they released the lower end Phenoms with the B2 stepping that cant do over 2.4 ghz. and realease the upper end boards at the same time. The high dollar boards would not have been bad if they had a 3ghz phenom.
