AMD vs Intel (again)

look, I used to know a worker of an Intel plant and not to offend anyone on here but AMD IS FASTER. if the bus speeds of the processors are the same and your judging based solely on the ghz then AMD is faster. Intel measures their ghz ratings on a different scale then AMD. an AMD 2.8 ghz is better than an Intel 3.2.

also when it comes to quad cores AMD is the ONLY TRUE processor utulizing all 4 cores. Intel's do not.

I have a pc (not gonna give all the specs) but running
-AMD athlon 64 x2 5400+ 2.8 overclocked to 3.01ghz
-1gb 800mhz
-ATI Radeon HD2600 IceQ OC'd

a friend had an intel not sure on model but it was running at 3.2ghz and he had the same video card and 2gb 800mhz of ram and I almost beat his score in 3D mark. when I put 2gigs of ram in my rig I beat him buy almost 1000points. If I backed the cpu down to 2.8ghz (stock) and put in the 2gb I beat him by about 600points.

I would agree since I love my X2 more then Intel BUT AMD is making some shitty products as of late. Their "tri core" (rofl) is proof if their blunder.

I plan to get a the 9550 2.2ghz Agena soon but my next rig will be intel based. There has been so many problems with their processors either not working or having non working cores etc.

I dont have a clue were you got that information. In the most polite way, you are wrong. Aside from the obvious, with my old setup (X2 5600 @ 3.3Ghz) doesnt outperform my E8400 at stock by any means. I changed the motherboard and cpu out to what i have now, gained 2k in 3Dmark instantly.

PS, high end intel dual cores outperform the "Phenoms" ;)

Whuddya mean? Even though intel quads aren't "real" quads, they still outperform the Phenoms (Even though, clock-for-clock the newest Phenoms perform almost as good as intels, Intel's still in lead). The fact that the Phenoms are "real" quads gives them absolutely no advantage over intel. All the 4 cores of an intel quad can be utilized just as well as all the cores of a Phenom.

This was true back in the NetBurst era, but NetBurst was abandoned long ago. Currently, Intel CPUs win.

Only where the program can use 1 or 2 cores. What you just said was true back when Phenoms were released, but they've matured a fair bit since, and as I said, clock-for-clock the performance of new Phenoms isn't quite that disappointing at all, as a matter of fact if Intel CPUs weren't able of clocking so bloody high [eeek] Phenoms would offer some serious [well at least moderate] competition.

Phenoms are not good at gaming, and you're lucky if you reach 2.8Ghz. With a multiple card setup, they under perform horribly, they give bad FPS and low SM scores with 3dmark. They just don't have the "punch" they should have, at all.

well like I said above the single/dual core ghz measurement scales being off, I got that info from a Intel factory worker. about the phenoms being "true" quad cores here ya go

Why dont u get a tri core? They really aren't that bad. My friend can use firefox, play css, world of warcraft, watch a video, and listen to music(while alt tabing between) without hitting 100%. And that's on the 2.1ghz one.
