AMD VS INTEL CPU question

now i know most of you like/prefer intel over amd but im somewhat new to the duo core/ athlon 64 x2 processors and am curious why intel is better if (on newegg) their lowest price intel core 2 duo processor starts at like $120 and the AMD Athlon 64 x2 starts around $50? I meen for budge dual core processor builds is AMD better and then if you can swing it Intel is better if you can go the high price? I'd jsut like to learn some more about them i am open to hear and listen i do not prefer one over the other i am jsut going to be building a computer soon and need to start learning more. Thanks in advance

Well, the pages you linked were for multiple CPU's. What models specifically were you looking at?

Intel costs more because generally they are built a bit better and can handle (typically) more of an OC than AMD can. Also, Intel is in an excellent Market position right now compared to AMD, so they have the ability to charge a bit more to begin with, and no one will think twice to question it.

It's not that AMD is 'bad', but at the moment, they're just not in the most optimal position to compete hardcore with Intel.

Im not sure why when i clicked the duo internet/musicore intel it didn't come up. I am just curious, it seems like for a lower price build a athlon 64 x2 is more economical than the core 2 duo. And you mention over clocking however i would be building for nothing more intense than internet/music.

I understandt that intel may be better but it seems and im just saying an opinion/something i think i notice, that for a budget dual core build, AMD is the way to go but if you can splurge a little more and would be OCing it then Intel is better.

now is the Athlon 64 x2 the same theory as the Core 2 Duo? and is that E2180 different (if it is how so?) from the Core 2 Duo?

Its a Pentium EXXXX, which is essentially a low-price dual core marketing plan by intel.

Edit: Not to be confused with Pentium Ds. TOTALLY different things.

It just has a lower price, lower clock, and lower l2 cache when compared to the current 65nm procs.

This may sound like a far fetched idea, but people make it sound like AMD isn't doing as well (sales wise which could be treu) but will AMD still be around in the future? I meen they're not hurting so bad they'll stop making stuff right? Weird question i know, but im a weird kid i guess.

The HD38*0 series were good for AMD. AMD most likely will not really die out, but continue producing budget CPU's...

Thanks. I meen like me for instance, right now i use a 2.4ghz celeron 1gb ram bla bla, i dont game and the computer functions for me, i figured a low budget athlon 64 x2 for college would be good for a year or two then i could build another one i meen considering i put an amd build together for $217 that was semi decent not including os and other periphs.

For around $250 you can get a system that could possibly almost max out BF2... :D

AMD is not doing well when compared to Intel; that's not to say AMD is doing poorly overall. AMD is a good company that has been around for a while. Every company has slumps here and there; a while back Intel was in one, right now AMD is currently in a small one. Intel got it's act together and went with cutting-edge stuff, and it paid off. I'm certain AMD rebound to a degree, but at this point in the game, I think it unlikely they will surpass Intel again in the foreseeable future. They will regain their pace and catch up to a degree, but most likely not overtake.

Not a weird question at all:)

i just over analyze things and i think "AMD not doing well compared to Intel...will they be around in the future...?"
But hopefully they will because i like diverse CPU s lol

If that happend even tho people would need the CPUs wouldn't they see a decrease in sales from people on budgets?
