So i have this hp pavilion dv4165cl laptop. A couple of days ago it stopped charging. I would end up wiggling the cord to the right place, and if it moves slicghtly it will stop charging.

I noticed that the ac adapter had a rip in it. So i odered a new one and it came today. I plugged it in and the same thing :(

So i chatted with an hp techinician and she said (after like 1/2 and hour) that the power jack was the problem and that its connected to the motherboard and that i would haveto replace it.

So i asked how much it would cost and she said 450-500$$$ Thats almost 1/2 the cost of this damn thing. Anyway she lowered it to $260 if i send it in to them to get it fixed.

My question is is will it cost that much to replace it? and will it be cheaper to go to a local mom and pop store?

Thanks

you could call local stores but the problem is thats a laptop and a brandname laptop you can't purchase any motherboard and slap it in there so it may infact cost that much but call and find out

thanks.

They called back and i decline to have it done. $268 is 1/4th of what i paid for this thing and its 2 and a half years old. I odnt think its worth it. It hink im just going to live with wiggling the cord.
