Are AMD processors good?

AMD Processors are more than fine for most of us, I have been very happy on AMD for the past 3 years. The X2 4800+ processor is not too bad.
 
I have always used AMD processors in my main rigs.
Intel may be on top in the speed wars at the moment but I have always leaned towards AMD.
Besides, someone needs to keep big fat Intel on their toes.
 
The reason why I'm asking because I'm looking at PC's for my nan. What sort of graphics card should she have because she only uses it for writing letters, printing photos etc.

I'm looking at pc's for my nan. She has got a pentium 4 at the moment. She won't be doing any gaming. How fast will these specs be:

AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4800+ 1MB SKT-AM2
ECS K8M890M0M-M S/V/L M-ATX 2000MT/s
2GB DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHZ (2 x 1 GB 800)
XpertVision 128/512MB NVIDIA GeForce 7200GS RET w/L

That will be very fast for that type of work. Integrated video and slower memory may be cheaper to do, and she wouldn't notice any speed difference.
 
AMD is fine for certain tasks, and your nan would be no exception. Your build, though, sucks. lol :)

2 x 1 GB Crucial DDR2

LG/Pioneer DVD/RW

I would go with SirK on this one. The integrated (onboard) graphics is a plus.

XP is still fast on 2GB, but id recommend Vista because of the advanced features and support, and its actually nice and snappy on that setup. ;)

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160
2GB RAM

Vista or XP is fine. For your nan, XP is probably better, as it's closer to what she's used to. Older people often find Vista very frustrating and intimidating. It often results in them not desiring to use their computers.
