Are high end cards with 256mb still good for gaming?

I have a question regarding this topic.
As far as i know gpu memory only effect on screen resolution and texturew in gaming.
Anything else that i dont know?

Get the 7950GT, it's cheaper ($190 on Newegg, while the X1950XT is $200), consumes less energy and only takes up one slot in your motherboard. ;)

huh?

I got the x1900xtx which is better then the x1900xt but they look exactly the same in size and all and it only takes up 1 slot on the mobo , I think that's how your meaning it.

Unless you mean by the x1900's fan and cover underneat with the small heatsink and rear exhaust?

Can someone prove me wrong or right on this one ?

But if I recall the X1900xtx is better then the x1950xt, correct ? If so what's the point of making the x1950 :S ?

Cheaper costs?

Thats because after the X1950XT comes the X1950XTX which is like not lot faster. Now is that more reasonable! lol

heres a link comparing the X1900XTX with the X1950XTX:

thanks guys for the help! i may end up getting the x1950xt instead. i don't have a lot of cash so i can't afford the 15,000 php pricetag of the 7950gt as I'm upgrading the rest of rig as well. (AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6ghz, still don't know which mo-bo, 2x1gb kingston ddr2-800 ram, Coolmaster 550w PSU)

GECube ATI Radeon X1950 XT 512mb/256bit,ddr3 PCI Express

I hope to find a store here that sells a 7900GT soon. So far, no luck. :(

in case you want to know, 1 USD = 44 PHP. :P

i had the 7950 gt..and i still think its better then my current 8800gts ..nothing but probs lol

You do, why?

jnskyliner34, I'm selling my 7950GT, for £100, which is 8,921.57 PHP... Don't know how we'd work it though?

Just a question that will probably help us help you...what games do you want to play, at what settings? What resolution will you be running at? Do you demand antialiasing? What do you consider to be an acceptable framerate?

dude, i'm already decided that i'm going for the x1950xt. but if i get a chance to find a 7900gt, i'm buying that instead.

i have 17" CRT monitor so my res would be 1024x768. it won't stress the card especially for a high end dx9 card.

hey hey! fellow filipino! like i said in the other page i have no plans to upgrade to vista so i won't be needing a dx10 card. and for the price of a mid dx10 card i can get a high end dx9 card instead.

Guru Master saying in a japanese voice "It is not you that decides when to upgrade, it is the software that chooses you"

Anyways i reckon it won't be long at all until all new games will be made for DX10 only, so eventhough u've alreday chosen, you might still wanna think about it cos ure gonna hav to upgrade OS to Vista soon anyway.
