Ati 4870 x2

I was getting a bare bonekit from tigerdirect.com and I was wandering if it was good to buy the 4870x2 graphics card and later upgrade and buy another 4870x2 card and run it in crossfire. My current price is about 2000 dollars.

You could run one HD 4870 X2 for sure, but I'm not sure that an 850 Watt power supply can support all of those parts, plus 2 HD 4870 X2's. You may be able to, but you'd need two 6 pin connectors, and two 8 pin.

I dont think it'll be worth buy another one, you'll get an increase of like 10 FPS on the few games which a 4870 X2 struggles with (it rapes most).
Only worth it if you run it on a high resolution.

what other components are you planning on running? one 4870x2 is more than enough for anything you can throw at it currently, having two of them in crossfire is just a waste of money IMHO.

get the GTX 295 (or you could call it a GTX 280x2) , it just came out. Benchmarks are saying it performs better than the 4870x2.

Lol it's not GTX 280x2 GTX 295s cores are identical to those of a GTX 260 and Stream processors (240) for each core equal those of a GTX 280 also insted of the 65 nm cores they shrinked them to 55 nm cores which reduces power requirements

That's how I understand it. Tech wise, it has a mix of the 260 and 280.

Nah its a GTX 280x2

Not true the GTX 295’s cores are identical to those of a GTX 260 the number of texture filtering units (80) and Stream processors (240) for each core equal those of a GTX 280 + insted of using 65 nm cores they shrunk it down to 55 nm which reduces power requirements

Thanks for the reply, I must have forgot to say in my post that I was going to upgrade my power supply to 1000 watts, and I was getting 2-3 case fans and a cpu fan (along with other components that I think you guys don't really need to know like a DVD RW drive, second HHD and stuff like that)

First of all thank you guys for replying, I am sorry that I could not reply to all the comments because I was not able to get on the computer since I was very busy. Anyways here is another thing to think about, since I am short handed on monitors (I no it sounds weird but I don't feel like buying a new monitor until the summer) I will be connecting my computer to my HDTV, I will most likely play most games on a 1080i resolution (not 1080p), is it really necessary for me to buy the nvidia 295 since I will be playing games on lower resolution because of the TV? I have also been thinking lately about getting a HD 4870 and saving me some money instead of getting the x2 and putting that into crossfire.

It is funny how you guys are arguing about the 260 280 and the 295gtx cards. Anyways since you guys are arguing a lot about the card do you think it is better for me to get a 295 card instead of the 4870x2????
I don' want to spend more than 600 dollars on the card.

Thanks
