BD-ROM drive issues

Hey everyone. I haven't been here for a while, but I've got a little problem that I can't seem to solve with a little Googling, so I thought I'd return for a bit. :P

Anyway, here's the deal: I purchased this Blu-ray drive from Newegg (Link) and I'm having some trouble with it. It came with no cable or software (I don't know how they would give me external drivers anyway since you first need a drive to run the CD...) so I just plugged in the power and my own SATA cable and expected it to run -- nothing huge. Well, it turns out that when I press the button on the drive when in Windows, nothing happens; Windows doesn't detect it, and not even a light flashes. The drive will, however, open before Windows starts, perhaps in the BIOS menu or something similar. If I keep the drive open and then close it after Windows starts, then it works fine and is recognized. But my problem is that this is every time I turn on my computer, and it's a bit tedious to open my drive every time it starts up and then close it when I'm logging on.

I'm thinking that there's something that's keeping it from automatically being recognized and that it's only detected when I manually close it (and it starts trying to read a disc, sending information to the computer). But I don't know any sort of way to fix this because I've never run into a problem like this. Any suggestions?

Most likely a faulty drive or possibly a bad sata power connector from power supply. What psu do you have?

This is the only drive I have... But my brother has an identical one and his seems to be working fine. I'll swap through some SATA cables also and check back here.

Okay, I've got my brother's identical drive plugged in right now, and it's doing the same thing. When I turn my computer on, the light on the drive flashes and it is able to be opened, but once Windows starts it's like it's not plugged into any power (unless I keep the drive open until I log in, where closing it forces it to try and read something and therefor it becomes recognized), and it doesn't show up in device manager or anything else of the matter. I'm thinking it's my board, so maybe it's something in my BIOS settings?

Can you think of any option that may help out at all?

Are you using the same sata power cable from the power supply? Try using a different one. May have a short in the power cable.

Yup, tried that too -- I swapped the one with my main hard drive (which has always been working fine) with the one I previously had in the Blu-ray drive, and everything is still going the same way. Like I said before, it seems to be getting power fine, but only until Windows starts unless I force it to try and read something by having it open on startup, so I don't think it's anything with my power supply.

EDIT: Well, it seems to be working now. It turns out my computer was actually hibernated and not entirely shut off when I plugged it in, so... that did something. Anyway, I restarted it and now it works fine. I probably should take better precautions and follow a safer procedure in the future... Sorry about that. :P

EDIT EDIT: It appears that the drive is still doing the same thing, but only because of RESUMING Windows -- it works fine with no manual crap on complete shutdowns/startups. So, I guess I'll just have to live with the long startups and shutdowns or just having to open the drive when powering on my computer.
