First of all, here are the spec of HD 2900 XTX and HD 2900 XT

AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT (745 MHz core, 1600 MHz GDDR3)
AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX (750 MHz core, 2020 MHz GDDR4)
Both have 320 stream processors and 512-bit memory interface. XTX has 1GB memory and XT has 512MB memory

And here is comparison between 2900XT/XTX and an overclocked 8800GTX (650MHz/2000MHz)

One benchmark, no where near conclusive..

I like good FPS, but I also like it to look better, which is why people by a nice card. Games IMO just look better with radeon GPU's. In cases with evenly matched processors or stat wise anyways.

The card is also faster than NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 despite its unfinished software drivers, the leak reveals. Using 3DMark 06, testers have successfully reached a score of 9700, edging out the more refined GeForce 8800 GTX by 200 points. While pricing remains unknown, the new Radeon is expected to ship in small numbers by mid-April (possibly in time for the Mac Pro) with larger quantities arriving in May. More photos can be found after the break. [via VR-Zone]

I don't believe those numbers at all.

Meh
The GTS is overpriced until the R600 release and the 2900xt was at about 450 reccomended. The 8800GTS will be under 350 (I assume) when it is released.

You should also note that the drivers for the x2900 series are most likely still in the BETA stage, and havent been tweaked yet, which will hopefully be done soon.

Still, the x2900XT is going to be priced around the same as the 8800GTS, so its no surprise that they perform about the same.

There is no official press release, I do not believe it..

speculation and gossip..

Whats so hard to believe? That the hype that all of us (well.. most of us;) ) helped to build could be false? It Looks like all the delays were not because of the building of a monster, but because of serious performance issues..

We all have to remember that these are dx10 cards. The way to bench a dx10 card is with dx10 games. The large GDDR4 in the XTX may give a boost with games like Crysis. But then again it may not. Let's wait before we judge.

The test system specifications are as follows:

* AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT (745 MHz core, 800 MHz GDDR3)
* AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX (750 MHz core, 1010 MHz GDDR4)
* AMD ATI Catalyst v8.361 (drivers slated for retail)
* NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (650 MHz core, 1000 MHz GDDR3)
* ASUS P5N32-E SLI (nForce 680i)
* Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800
* Corsair XMS2 PC2-8500 (800 MHz, 5-5-5-18, 1T)
* Acer X241W

The were using the retail drivers, the drivers that will come with the card

Non of this proven, it is some random site spouting information without citing information, or even proof.
