My board is old and has socket A (462). What is the best processor I can get? It seems like the sempron might be the best out there for this older borad but not %100 sure.

My board does support 200mhz according to cpu-z so I will look into that. What do you mean if I can find it? Will it be hard to find. Also whats the odds of finding it new? Im gonna try to check out a decent used/new computer shop around here. I want to upgrade the board I have before I end up going for a up to date build on another board. So this would be the fastest processor I can get for my motherboard? Also when I change out the processors will I have to totally re-boot my system and mess with bios or can it be a swap and done deal type thing?

The 3200+ I found on ebay for about $70. Is that a normal price?

You can buy a brand new Athlon II for that much.

Save $200 and buy a new board, cpu, and memory at the same time.

You'll be much happier. You're not going to notice much of a difference with
an upgraded cpu on that old board anyway.

Im not going to "save" any money buying a new setup. I will end up spending more. Its alot easier to spend a few on this comp and build an up to date on later. There is nothing wrong with what I have now. I am not gonna just throw it away or anything. Plus when I get a new setup I am gonna spend some good money on it. Im not gonna buy a cheap mobo, memory and cpu combo for $200. Wont do much for me compared to what I already have.

My point was, save your money to get something better.

Any money you put into your current system, will be a waste
because you will not experience any great leaps in performance.

Btw, you could definitely see increased performance with a $200
combo over what you have now.

It would be a big performance jump but it would take a lot of work too, a $70 CPU that you can just stick in. To get a new board you're now looking at new RAM, CPU, possibly a video card (unless you got a board with integrated video), and you could even need a new PSU. The costs can add up in a hurry. If it gets on the internet and runs office most people are happy.

$70 for an Athlon 3200+ single-core processor is a rip off. Get the Athlon 2200+ for $30 or save your money for a future upgrade.

No offense, but that board will be an old turd no matter what cpu you put in it.

Any money put into it that hardware will be wasted.
