If you want to change the OS go for LINUX . you can download it from many sites just search google.com.

Some cost money (Redhat, SuSe pro, etc. etc.), but almost all distro's that cost money have a free version too. In short, no, Linux does not cost anything. I will warn you, however, if you have a SATA drive you'll definitely have some problems (I can't get Linux to install without having to wipe the drive clean).

What is wrong with Windows? It is a great OS. Not just because everything is compatible but because you can do so much with it. I would only really consider using two OSs and those are Windows (mostly 2000, XP and up) and OSX(If I had a Mac....) but I see no point in getting a different OS unless you are running short of money and can't afford Windows. I think its just because Microsoft is a big company and nobody likes the big companies except other big companies :P.

Well, windows is compatible with lots of stuff, but it does cost a lot. I got a linux and a windows computer a year ago, both i used for pretty much the same stuff. Windows i had to reload twice but the linux comp i have never had a single error or problem with.

Then you prabally need to learn how to use windows bettter, I have never needed to reinstall or anything for the sake of windows having erros or being virus infected.

Probably cause you dont mess around with windows that much. I've had to do it several times but thats only because i tried to find the max possible oc and i couldnt boot up :o

I think windows is a great OS, and if you go with another OS that there wont be as many compatible programs/games.

Those are real easy for installing Linux. Linux is also very universally compatible (device-wise). The exceptions to this are devices that require third party drivers in Windows XP (in every instance I've witnessed). Companies tend to not supply special drivers for Linux due to lack of any financially substantial repercussion. No company is going to see a 20% drop in profit if their products don't support Linux.

There are additionally programs that will let you run just about anything on Linux that can be run on Windows (Cedega and Wine most notably, and it is worth noting that in most cases I've witnessed Cedega will run games 10/15 frames faster than Windows. Additionally Transgaming (the developers of Cedega) have developed a DirectX alternative that reputably runs faster than DirectX itself). If you work a little harder than you would have to in Windows you can get quite a bit out of Linux.

Is Linux perfect? Of course not. Is Linux better than Windows? Subjective. The best advice I can give is to try it, and if it's not your thing, stick to Windows. Windows is easy and friendly. Linux may kick your teeth in initially, but it is free, and it is not without benefit.
