So! ive been gaming hard all day and just now the computer randomly restarts so i start windows normally to have it restart again. so at this point im thinking "f*ck!" so i shut it down (holding the power button). no idea why this is happening, what i do know is the power went off yesterday witch you can see a full explanation on here: HELP please. http://www.computerforums.org/hardw...-went-out-computer-not-responding-109095.html

but in a nutshell power went off then came back on, and my usb ports werent responding. it could also be the temps but i wasnt having trouble with them before, but that could be it. please help guys i dont want to see my baby die young :'(

Anytime the power goes off, and the computer keeps rebooting itself when trying to load windows that usually means there are errors on the hard drive. What brand of hard drive is it? You would have to download and run the drive diagnostic on it to repair the errors. Very easy to do.

LOL i just had a friends computer do this (a very crappy computer at that). I tried diagnostics and what not. Windows would not load at all. Go to boot up but go right back to square one. I just took his hard drive and reformatted it. Couldn't figure out what exactly was wrong and didn't know how to fix it.

Running better then before now :) lol.

Curious on seeing what solutions others come up with, so i know for next time.

IF you didn't run the extended scan, it most likely wouldn't have fixed any errors. Always run the extended scan. When you did the full format it tests for bad sectors and marks them as bad or fixes if they can be repaired.

Hmm, i thought i selected full extended scan, maybe i didn't. Nice info to watch out for. Pretty sure when i ran the reformatting it fixed them, didn't lose any hard drive space if that's what you mean.

Well for now im screwed. the computer wont stay running long enough for me to do anything and i dont have a computer here with a sata port. enless i want to take apart my laptop... but for the record this is the drive fixer i want right? :http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools

EDIT: its a virus.. i booted into safemode with command prompt and its running fine... any suggestions?

A virus wouldn't do this. You most likely have errors on the hard drive.

What brand of hard drive do you have? Seagate? If so then yes use seatools but use the cd dos version. The windows version doesn't do very well. You will need to download the file and use burning software that will write iso images to cd and then boot to the cd and run the extended test.

its a samsung f3 1tb, so what should i download to check for fixes? Also, i figured it was a virus because it booted to safe mode fine. but your the expert.

iso file? im sorry im not the best at this stuff. and by boot it you mean boot off of it like i did when i first installed windows?

so i would boot off it like i did when installing windows? and i downloaded the one from cnet. so i ran it and now i see this box that says full path to cd/dvd/etc etc what do i do from here? like i said im clueless and appreciate the help.

So i kinda guessed and the iso is burned. im going to try and boot from it.

EDIT: it booted and im testing the drive, i think. its testing the stuff right now and passing all so far. im scanning the whole surface right now. im assuming this is going to take a long time. but its passed all before that. so what do i do when this is done?

The extended test depending on how big the drive is could take a couple hours for like a 500gb drive, A 250gb a little over an hour. Just post back with the results and we'll go from there.

yeah its going to take 3hrs at this rate. witch is fine aslong as the stuff gets fixed. and i cant tell you how much i appreciate this man.

The Hdd Passedd all of the tests. so i should now system restore right? ill tell you how it goes. i just system restored. hard drive came up clean. if this doesnt work its a format because i dont know what else to do. yup. system restored, windows booted into just a black screen. i control alt deleted and shut it down.. this is really pissing me off.. well ill have to take the hard drive out and take it to a friends (to format it) enless you suggest otherwise. but that wont be for a few days. does that cd have an option to format? will that work?

The install cd has the option to format the drive. I still can't figure out whats going on. When the power went out and the system shut off abruptly, this usually means there will be errors on the hard drive or possible head crash. So if the test came back ok. There has to be some other reason why its boot looping. Possibly bad driver or the sata controller is in the wrong mode. WIthout looking at the system myself, its hard to tell whats going on.

will the cd format the whole drive? because it said minor. i want the whole thing clean.. and when the power went out, it shutdown but the power came back on, it was like a 5 second flicker. so my completely knowlageless opinion on whats going on is either i have a virus, or when the power went out the computer didnt have all the power out of the system by the time the power was back on. so it confused the motherboard and the hard drive got the bad end of the deal. idk though.

You still may have some sort of hardware damage, just not sure what though.

The cd, is it an actual microsoft install cd or a manufacturer recovery cd? The recovery cd really doesn't format the drive it just reimages the drive. The microsoft install cd will format the drive.
